225/65 17 Tyre Review Highlights

Nokian WR G4 SUV rated 40% while driving a Toyota RAV4
Driving on mostly motorways for 25000 easy going miles
I wore out a set of these tires in 40,000kms (25,000miles). I had my tires rotated every 7000kms when my vehicle was in for scheduled maintenance intervals. They are by far the worst tires I have used. My wife expressed to me on several occasions how she feels unsafe with them. They do not instill confidence to the driver and make you pucker up for every wet bend or snowy turn. I will not be buying these or any other nokian product again.

Nokian One rated 84% while driving a Mazda cx5
Driving on a combination of roads for 15000 spirited miles
I have had the tires for 15k miles, and am very happy with them thus far. There are on a small Mazda SUV and I think are a good match the spirit of the car. The wear is just now kissing the 80% graphic. The tires are not totally silent, but certainly 9/10 for it - An occasional strip of concrete will make them sing, but that is the exception. Dry traction so far is 10/10, with wet having a little noticeable lapse from a stop - FWD, but have not slipped or pushed in wet cornering. Dry handling matches the car’s spirit - lively without sharp bumps transmitted. We only had meaningful snow for a few days this year and they were fine - not a Hakka, but no surprises. I am keeping my eye on prices for it for my wife’s car, as it remains a top contender soon. Current set is made in Dayton, TN - USA! Son has the identical car with Pirelli Scorpion AS+3 - These Nokian ONEs compare very favorably, at a significant cost savings in that size

Bridgestone Blizzak LM005 rated 34% while driving a Toyota RAV4
Driving on mostly town for 6000 easy going miles
These tires are terrible. Down to 3mm in just 10 000 km on a Hybrid Toyota Rav4. They got very hard and very loud in two winters. Dangerous on snow and ice. Would not recommend.

Maxxis Wormdrive AT 980E rated 71% while driving a Isuzu DMAX
Driving on mostly country roads for 5000 spirited miles
Nice tyre, good grip off-road, slightly more road noise but looked good and decent grip even on wet tarmac. Would buy again.

Maxxis Bravo AT771 rated 80% while driving a Land Rover Freelander 2
Driving on mostly country roads for 32000 average miles
For a mid range tyre, I have found the Maxxis Bravo AT 771 to be an excellent all round performer. We do most of our mileage on country lanes & A roads with a minimal amount of dual carriage & motorway. Grip in the dry is excellent. Performance in wet is more than adequate. When we had a big fall of snow last winter, I was more than confident driving in thick snow & compacted ice. Only complaints would be road noise & fuel economy but no more than usuals trade offs for an all terrain. Done close to 32,000 miles & still got a few K left in them. Will price them when due & if competitive will definitely have again.

Continental ContiCrossContact LX rated 36% while driving a Nissan X Trail 2.5 petrol
Driving on mostly motorways for 15000 average miles
I will never buy another set of these. These came factory fitted. Slippery like a fish! Hydroplane on the shallowest sheet of water on the road. Scary !! Takes forever to get to destinations whenever it rains cause I'll be slipping and sliding everywhere. Very dangerous tires. I threw them away even with a balance of 50% tread. The new Michelin Primacy SUV+ is night and day compared to these Conti.

Toyo Open Country AT plus rated 80% while driving a Honda
Driving on mostly country roads for 1000 average miles
Bought the car with a mismatch of weird tyres on each corner and it felt and handled weirdly. Did a bit of research and found the Toyos closest to my needs. Instantly the handling was much better but took around 50 miles to get around that new tyre understeer. The noise is noticeably less than the old tyres and the grip is amazing. The crv is normally FWD until a front wheel slips and then the rear diff kicks in and goes 4x4 but since fitting these tyres and using them in heavy wet conditions on grass/ mud I haven't felt the rear kick in at all which shows how much grip they have. Road use is very good with much less noise than the last tyres and handling in wet and dry is above average and inspires much more confidence. On country roads, I can hit a quite deep puddle and it ploughs through it with no problem. The other plus is the rugged design, in the UK country roads are plagued with potholes at the side of the road, these tyres just plough through them and over time I have gone from wincing and expecting to put on the spare to having full confidence in the TOYO's ability to traverse them effortlessly. So far I have only used them in wet/mud/ country lanes and they excel but looking forward to trying out that three peak-rating in the snow, I suspect I won't be disappointed.

Yokohama Geolander AT G015 rated 100% while driving a Subaru Outback
Driving on a combination of roads for 20000 average miles
I am amazed at the performance of these all season tires especially in the snow and ice. Stopping distance isn’t quite as good as snow or studded tires but with these on in the winter I have better traction and steering than previous all winter tires I have run these a full winter and have had better handling and traction than winter tires. I will definitely get these tires again.

Yokohama Geolandar G98A rated 52% while driving a Honda 2009 CRV
Driving on a combination of roads for 10000 easy going miles
These were not as good as my original tyres didn’t grip as well, but when it snowed , they were absolutely rubbish. Nearly had two accidents because I couldn’t stop, and I wasn’t going too fast, having to change them after only 10,000 miles because I feel they unsafe if it’s snows it was in snow that I have my problems. Do not know if I could stop if it was icy after a few days my vehicle is a 4x4 never had trouble stopping when it snowed before. These are not cheap budget tires, expected them to be much better, will be replacing in the next two weeks when there’s still lots of tread left

Dunlop Grandtrek ST30 rated 91% while driving a Suzuki grand vitara

BFGoodrich Trail Terrain TA rated 66% while driving a Toyota RAV4
Driving on mostly motorways for 76000 average miles
1st) there is the looks. These tyres looks amazing! You cannot get around that (Silver 2021 RAV4 Hybrid with white letters showing)
2nd) I was impressed with the road noise, or lack thereof. For an AT, these are very quiet.
3rd)tread life looks good. I am currently at 78000km on them and still have 4.5mm left all round. I did not baby them, but mostly do high way driving on tar.
4th) Who ever said in a review that I red when I got them ( there was very little to no reviews as they were brand new) that "they do not increase fuel consumption " was full of ......
Why do I say that? Because there is no reference point as to what the person used before. Did they run KO2's? Then of course there will be no increase in consumption. So my reference is the OEM Bridgestone Alanza HP. Compared the that, I lost 1-1.5km/l with the BF's. Its understandable. Its heavy and it is an AT. I am running 225/65R17 and my current average is 16-16.5km/l
My next set will be high way summer tires again, then I can easily be in the 17's.
5th) The wet grip is BAD. Like really bad! At robots in the rain, touch the throttle to hard and its spinning for days ( I have an 2x4 hybrid)
I once overtook a truck in the wet, and at 60km/l, my car started spinning its wheels. I know the stretch of road very well, so I can confirm that my Bridgestones never did that.

Will I buy again? Probably not. We have no snow, hot climate. Fuel consumption and wet grip is the downfall. We have super bad roads here, but I can cope with an HP tire.
For the looks yes, they rock, but sadly not again for me.

Greetings all the way from South Africa

Dunlop Grandtrek Touring AS rated 32% while driving a Toyota RAV4
Driving on mostly country roads for 33000 easy going miles
My tyres are 6 years old and have had an easy life. tread left 5mm-6.5mm. Car taken to Toyota dealer to service and mot. all 4 tyres were condemed for wall cracking and rubber lifting at a cost of £144+ each. I don't feel at all happy with the way these tyres have deteriated long before the tread has reached renewing dimentions, and as such I would guess that purhaps they were part of a faulty batch. I also note from other reviews that this is not an isolated case. But with no end result from Dunlop UK. Other tyres I have are older than these with no sign of the cracking as on the Dunlops. Why should I pay for a premium tyres when they do not last or perform like budget ones!! YOUR THOUGHTS WOULD BE USEFUL.
