235/55 18 Tyre Review Highlights

Kumho WinterCraft WS71 rated 88% while driving a Toyota Sienna
Driving on mostly motorways for 37000 average miles
I had these tyres fitted to my 3rd gen Toyota Sienna AWD and have been driving with the same vehicle for the past four years, all up I would've had these tyres on for a good 30000kms over that period and switched between summer and winter tyres every 6 months. For summer I ran Goodyear EfficientGrip SUV HP01.

These tyres gave me the confidence to take on slush when wet and cold dry. Where I lived was typically dry during winter but could get cold (I've seen down to -21 celsius) with some good snow days. My driving was typically long sweeping roads and highways with some dodgy farm roads thrown into the mix - these tyres took it all in their stride.

I was able to drive through the last cold season on the original set. Suffered a few punctures but that's more due to unavoidable road debris (nails etc.) than the tyres themselves. I've added that this is an end-of-life review as they were nearing replacement but it was also when I sold the vehicle (I gave the tyres to the next owner).

If I still lived in a country that would frequent sub-zero temperatures I wouldn't hesitate to buy these tyres again.

Continental VikingContact 7 rated 54% while driving a Ford Kuga
Driving on a combination of roads for 0 easy going miles
Strange, but this tire worked well 1,5 winter season, then they not like everywhere reviewed... My tires compound goes very hard, very uncomfortable to drive in potholed road(feel like car have sportcar suspension). In 2 season tire was good in dry, wet, snow, slush...but in icy road drive dangerous compared first season. Some people write they are low noise, no they like other winter tires! I never had that kind change with other tires, i allraedy thinking no more studded tires... But reality come back after 1,5 season.

Bridgestone Weather Control A005 EVO rated 60% while driving a Toyota RAV4
Driving on a combination of roads for 10000 average miles
These tyres have been fitted to my Toyota Rav4 for the last few years.
I choose Bridgestones over the Cross climates for the comfort, wet performance and lower rolling resistance.
Good-
Assured in the wet and dry, very comfortable, not found the limit of grip yet.
Bad-
Tyres started cracking around the tread blocks within 12months, louder than expected on the road, snow performance best described as lacking (short of what I'd expected).
Verdict-
Wouldn't buy again, would pick quieter tyres next time with better cold weather performance.

Continental PremiumContact 7 rated 93% while driving a Volvo
Driving on mostly motorways for 1000 easy going miles
Coming from a winter tire, it was expected for this one to perform far better than the previous one. Surprisingly, Continental is not stiff anymore (had PremiumContact 6 a few years back). Sidewalls are way softer than before, as far as I remember. Direction change response is good, feedback seems fine too. Rolling resistance is also good. And I can see a few mpg improvement (doesn't necessarily mean this one is fuel-friendly, just better than the winter one).
Anyway, initially quite pleased, we will see about wear, but I don't expect them to last too long since the car has 1900kg.
Price was also competitive at ±140 EUR per each.

Continental EcoContact 6 rated 40% while driving a Kia Motors
Driving on mostly country roads for 12000 easy going miles
Factory fit on my Kia Sportage Hybrid. I have travelled 12500 miles in 10 months on these tyres and had seven punctures, all caused by stones piercing the carcass of the tyre. The design of the tread collects small stones, 50+ of them in each tyre and the carcass must be very thin. I've never had this before in 30 years of driving, same roads and type of driving and my other car which does similar mileage on the same roads hasn't had a puncture in years. Judging by complaints on Kia forums this is not uncommon. After four repairs and three replacement tyres i've abandoned them and have swapped them out for a different tyre.

They are fine in the dry and generally not a bad tyre for wet grip on a heavy SUV. The are undoubtedly good for fuel consumption as the replacement tyres are denting that slightly but whats the point in saving a few quid in fuel if you need to replace a £150 tyre every few months as you get a puncture?! If you buy thee tyres i'd recommend you get yourself a space saver spare tyre.

Hankook Ventus S1 evo 3 ev rated 64% while driving a Audi
Driving on mostly town for 15000 average miles
Very good handling. Average comfort. Relatively bad wet handling with abrupt loss of grip in wet, but not soaked, road surface. The loss of grip is most prominent in oozy, slimy road surface.

Hankook Ventus S1 evo2 SUV rated 90% while driving a Volkswagen Tiguan
Driving on a combination of roads for 40000 spirited miles
Great set of tyres! They have everything you would want from your tyres. Excellent comfort and excellent handling. In heavy downpours it is never phased. Very impressive and confidence inspiring tyres. Would highly recommend . Can't wait to get my hands on the latest s1evo3s considering how well it's predecessor performed

Continental ContiMaxContact MC6 rated 76% while driving a Volkswagen Tiguan
Driving on a combination of roads for 7000 average miles
Surprisingly comfortable for a performance rated tyre. Noise is minimal
Handling is on point with rather direct feel.
Yet it dampens out bumps and uneven surface rather well. Probably thanks in part to its relatively softer sidewalls.

Michelin CrossClimate 2 rated 92% while driving a Skoda
Driving on a combination of roads for 10000 spirited miles
These tyre are fitted to the Ambulance Officer Response vehicle that I use at work. They are therefore asked to deal with a driving style that is completely different to most other users. They need to keep me and other road users safe whilst responding to medical emergencies on a wide variety of roads and weather conditions. These tyres are fantastic in all conditions and that includes cold and wet, which are conditions that appears to be reviewed as a weak point by some reviewers. I would very much disagree with them as my experience is that if driving appropriately to the conditions these tyres along with the smart 4WD system of Skoda allows a huge amount of control and confidence when driving on slippery roads. In the 5 years that I have had this car to drive I have not felt it reach the limit of grip once. It is worth saying that the car is heavy, with the amount of equipment we have to carry so this may help with the tyres gripping. I have just got 4 of these fitted to my own Nissan X-trail T31 (2012) so will review them on this vehicle shortly. I can't recommend them enough. It is worth noting that, due to the nature of emergency driving, the tyres are change every 20,000 miles, so this life span is not representative of normal use.

Continental ContiMaxContact MC6 rated 84% while driving a Volkswagen Tiguan
Driving on a combination of roads for 1800 average miles
These tyres will impress me after 2,000 kilometers.
Produced low-frequency noise on the rough tarmac with the VW 18" stock wheel.
The steering wheel feels good, and the ride is comfortable too.
Shorter braking distances in wet and dry weather.
The rolling resistance is good, and the mileage has somewhat increased.
Overall, I am happy with the MC6.

Hankook Ventus S1 evo 3 SUV rated 80% while driving a Volkswagen Tiguan
Driving on a combination of roads for 2000 average miles
I won't be impressed by these tyres until they have travelled 1,000 kilometres.
The steering wheel feels wonderful, and the ride is comfortable.
At all speeds, there was a noticeable reduction in road noise at first.
Smooth on all road surfaces; low-frequency noise on the rough surface.
Short wet and dry braking distances.
While driving, I can feel the reduced rolling resistance, and the mileage has somewhat increased.
A value-for-money product.
