Passenger Car Winter High Performance Tyres Tyre Review Highlights

Sava Eskimo HP2 rated 85% while driving a Suzuki SX4 Scross 1.4T Boosterjet
Driving on a combination of roads for 25000 average miles
Very good experience with them, 5th winter now using the Eskimo HP2 (probably the last one, as I tend to believe the time itself takes a toll on the tire, even if the treads still look fine). Never had any problems with them (in terms of reduced safety while driving), except from once on a snowy, unplowed road, where we didn't comfortably come to a halt while braking - at least not where I anticipated it (maybe an additional meter, from a very low speed, maybe 25 km/h). However, there was no damage to anybody/anything, and the conditions were really nasty. Aside from that, I feel the difference on wet (compared to my Pilot Sport 4, in mild temperatures, say 5-10 dg Celsius) and on dry roads, but still the experience is more that satisfactory. Factoring in the quiet ride and the slow wear - a recommendation from me, I consider the Eskimo HP2 to be safe and reliable, especially for the price.

Zeta Antarctica 5 rated 56% while driving a Honda Civic 1.8
Driving on a combination of roads for 3000 easy going miles
The design of the tire is good. But the handling is so terrible! My car is all over the road and there's nothing I can do to prevent it. The side walls are way too soft.

Zeta Antarctica 5 rated 43% while driving a Kia Motors Forte Koup
Driving on a combination of roads for 5000 easy going miles
Canadian roads. I'm a very gentle driver, and don't slam on brakes/ throttle inputs. These are Absolutely horrendous on snow handling/ acceleration and braking. Barely capable of coming to a clean stop at creeping speeds. Constantly having to throttle up to fight against the car. You get unpredictable Understeer to oversteer, massive amounts of steering lock required to turn and good luck getting out of a 30cm snow bank. If you have harsh winters, stay as far away from these as possible. They get very scary on highways with snow tracks forming. It "aquaplanes" on snow and slush quite easily. It feels extremely unsafe. The only thing surprising about the tire is the fact that it has more grip on ice than It does on light snow.....

Nankang Winter Activa SV 4 rated NAN% while driving a Toyota Auris
Driving on a combination of roads for 3000 average miles
Just as an update to my previous review as I have had these on for another winter. I'm still happy with the tyres overall, but have found they can struggle for grip in damp conditions. For instance, going round a roundabout at 20mph my car lost grip.

Wear still seems good, the tread has not dropped too much

Fulda Kristall Control HP2 rated 78% while driving a Volkswagen Golf R estate
Driving on a combination of roads for 2500 spirited miles
I bought these tyres as they were all my local tyre company had in stock - they have turned out to be extremely good, far better than my previous Nokian WR D4 tyres. They are amazingly quiet & seem to offer plenty of grip & low rolling resistance. They're also enjoyable to drive on a twisty road - I was always conscious of having much narrower & higher profile winter tyres before (summer size is 235/35/19, so quite a difference), but with these, it's easy to forget. They're even effective outwith the normal "window" for winter tyres (I drove over 600 miles in 2 days, with the temperature not dropping below 11c).

In short, although these are a "mid range" tyre (& one I wouldn't have bought if I hadn't needed them in a hurry), I wouldn't hesitate to use them again, they have surprised me with how good they are! I haven't experienced proper winter conditions yet (just a few heavy frosts), but impressive so far.

Momo North Pole W2 rated 89% while driving a Volkswagen Passat
Driving on a combination of roads for 10000 average miles
I'm using these tyres for the second season now, I've used them in Austria in heavy snow and the grip was perfect. Fuel economy is great with these tyres. (Summer tyres: 6.5 liter / 100km, Momo 7 liter / 100km). I'd buy again.

Best tyres I used to rebuy them again and again, Im a snowboarder and I can easily say that sava combination with audi quattro are simply unstoppable I have never had any issues with them definitely recommend them buying they are not very expensive and being honest I had much better performance in snow than my friends with premium brands. Very good

Maxtrek TREK M7 rated 94% while driving a Honda Ridgeline
Driving on a combination of roads for 10 average miles
These tires work awesome for the price. Tires are very quiet for a snow tire. These tires even work great in summer. Traction in wet or dry is great. Good performance on snow and ice. Previous set lasted 80,000 km running tires all year around towing a trailer 50% of the time.

GT Radial WinterPro2 rated 93% while driving a Ford Fiesta 2009 titanium 1.4
Driving on mostly country roads for 9500 spirited miles
185/70/14. Brilliant in mud, rocky terrain and deep snow and ice. I run these tires all year round. Always get two new fronts each year as they are affordable and the tread depth is roughly 10mm in the size I use. These tires are good all year round but can feel heavy when weather reaches 20°c and above but they’re winter tires after all
