Michelin Energy Saver Plus Reviews - Page 4

Toyota Avensis estate 1.8 petrol (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 80,000 average miles
Got Energy Saver tyres replaced the old Michelin Primacy ones that have been for 8 years on my car. Well, Primacy tyre is more fun to drive, of course you can enter the corner at higher speed, but these are another class tyres. Energy tyre is perfect on a motorway - quiet, saves fuel (up to 1 liter per 100 km) and lasts longer. I've also noticed that the grip is getting better when the temperature goes up (more than 10C). In wet you have to be careful with any type of tyre, I would say driving in wet with Michelin Saver is ok, but you have to give it more distance for breaking. Well, the tyre can not operate the same in dry and wet. But overall, I think that Michelin has found a good balance and I consider this tyre to be number 1 among all Eco tyres.

Very comfortable tyres with good feedback and handling considering greek bumpy roads. The most important, despite the good performance, is that they dont wear easily, which is something that makes you feel that your money were appreciated. Will be buying them again for sure.

Given 50% while driving a Volkswagen Golf Mk6 (205/55 R16 H) on mostly country roads for 30,000 average miles
Worst Tyre ever, I had it in a Peugeot 106 without ABS and had an accident in wet weather, incredible how the car don't stopped with plenty of time. Now came with my Golf fortunately with ABS, but cornering in the wet is dangerous, you need to go slow, really slow. In dry conditions no concerns, and the wear is the best 60000km so far and now I need to change the front tires, but not for the same, maybe Hankook S1 for Quality/price maybe the best deal (205/55/16: 61€ each), only worried with the wear.

Given 74% while driving a Nissan Versa (195/60 R15 H) on a combination of roads for 35,000 average miles
I have Energy saver+ replaced my OEM BS B250 tire since 2013 Mar. It runs 50000 KM since then. Overall it's a better than average tire. After 40,000 km (25 K miles), it becomes more noisy and unpredictable in wet. Until 50,000 km the drain depth is about 3.5 mm, but overall grip lost 30% up. This is very natural in all tyres. It's up to driver to stay with this or replace it to your driving habit. I would say the first 40,000 km, this tyre worth every pence you spent. After 40,000 km, overall performance drops daily and better replace them.

the best tyres iv had on a van. even in the wet the grip is very good.when its time to replace the tyres there is still more than 80%grip from new.front tyres get 45 to 50kilometers rear 80 to 100kilometers.iv stopped putting the fronts to the back as it halves the wear of the tyres .iv done twohundred and twenty thousand ks in this van

Given 60% while driving a Renault Clio III Dynamique 1.2 Turbo (185/60 R15 H) on a combination of roads for 10,000 average miles
Energy Saver? No chance I'm afraid. Significantly worse mpg than previous Conti Premium Contacts which in theory have much worse rolling resistance (so much for official Euro labels). Wet grip is also disappointing - quite treacherous on cold damp roads, again at odds with the Euro label results, and much as I would have expected from Michelins from 10+ years ago. Wear so far seems minimal, but overall I have to say I am disappointed and would not buy these tyres again for any car.

I see You write a review about energy saver plus wich is a SUMMER tire , in fact you test them on winter, on Ice???!!! I am missing something?
This tyres are not supossed to handle weell on Ice and cold weather because has a strong composition.
I used old Michelin Energy 185/65/R15 not Energy Saver Plus from 2007 since december 2012 for a total of about 75 000 km - 46602 miles only in summer and I was thrilled by the results.
-Long lasting tyre
-good grip
-Verry lite and thin tyres
-Noiseless
-No vibration on normal Hi speeds (120-150 KM/h 74-93 miles/hour)
My car doesn't run faster than 170km/hour but on Romanian national roads is enough :)
-usage on mostly city and inter city roads
-after 75.000km-47000miles I haven't reach the safety mark and I have 1-2 milimeters more

Tomorrow I will buy 4 new Energy saver plus (made in Germany 2012 december)and I am verry anctious about it.
I know that I had excelent results with precedent tyre model and I am confident that these will be much better than the old ones that I'm replacing.
As a note:
-I am replacing the old tyres because of the age of rubber and the fact that they are showing lateral small cracks (normal as long usage 6 years)
-At every 2 weeks I periodically check and set tyre pressure to 220kPa

Admittedly i have not had these tyres long but when comparing to the Michelin Primacy HP's i have on the other half of the car these are very comparable, only in theory they have much better fuel efficiency characteristics.
Noise levels are good and they are soft enough to grip in the wet and ice/cold.

Given 67% while driving a Volvo C30 1.6 Drive (225/45 R17) on mostly motorways for 40,000 average miles
These were standard fitment on this car.

What they excel at is:

Motorway work, when they get nice and warm; in fact the longer the journey, the better.

Wear, which is negligible – after 40,000 miles the fronts have 4mm left and the rear over 5mm.

Fuel efficiency has been extraordinary, the car has average 58 mpg over 40,000 miles much of which has been on main roads/motorways travelling as quick as is reasonable. I have yet to see if the new tyres I am running (Continental Winter Contact TS830P) seriously affect the mpg.

What they are not so good at:

First long journey on a damp November A road got me nervous about their grip. I have never felt that I wanted to put these tyres to an extreme test; they just did not inspire confidence in col/damp conditions. Having said that they have never let me down or done anything really horrible.

Noisy, not unbearable but definitely there.

A hard and harsh ride. This has seemed to get worse as the tyres have worn. They are not meant to be a ‘performance’ tyre but they seem almost as harsh as one.

Would I buy them again or refit them after the winter?

Not sure about this. They do have some strong attributes, especially wear and fuel efficiency. However in terms of driving experience and enjoyment my new winter tyres are so much better, and it’s still 10c outside so not a ‘real’ winter yet, that I will have to seriously consider alternatives in the spring.
