BMW 318 Tyre Review Highlights

Writing about the Continental Premium Contact 2 given 93% (205-60-15-V)
Driving on a combination of roads for 10000 spirited miles
After driving the Premium Contact 2s on my car for about 10k miles around all seasons in the south east of the UK I am very impressed. Very quiet, comfortable and grippy tyres at most conditions. Special mention is deserved for the way these handle in the wet and their inability to let go regardless of the abuse they were subjected to. In that particular size they are also not very expensive (I paid £69 a corner) and a great improvement to any car.

very good, balanced tires, cheaper than other oponents and extra grip on wet. They are very predictable on all surfaces, except sand :P

I was happy with these tyres until the inside wall of a rear tyre split. You'd have to see it to believe it but there were 3 splits ranging from 1cm to 10cm. Could be a once off but deinately a tyre fault. This happened with 5mm of thread still remaining.

Writing about the Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Run Flat given 53% (255-35-18-)
Driving on mostly motorways for 14000 spirited miles
Terrible terrible tyres!! Bone shatteringly hard. DSC light on more than off on potholed roads. Noisey in town and motorway. The car more or less hops ound corners if there are any undulations.

The good news - Direct Line said that changing to non run flats was acceptable and the insurance was still valid and that it did not amount to a modification. They merely noted the file. Quick Fit said they would not fit them as it would void my insurancebut would have charges £20 a corner.

BMW (Syntners) said they would - provided they had confirmation from my insurance company...but "Of course Sir the car has been designed for these tyres and changing them may change the handling charecteristics" - they would say that wouldnt they.

Brilliant service at Equipe in Heywood Lancs. £39.95 fitted, balanced and valved for 4 tyres. New Vredesteins excellent - the car is like a new car - non of the above problems much quieter

I had these tyres on for 3 days and pulled them off before I ended up in a ditch. Stay away and pay the extra few quid for safe tyres
