Writing about the Toyo T1R given 90% (225-45-17-W)
Driving on a combination of roads for 50000 average miles
Fitted a set of Toyo T1R 225/45 94Y tyres at 22000 miles after getting horendous uneven wear from Yokaham DB's on rear (orignal) and less than 10k on Michelin Primacy (2nd set). After reading reviews picked Toyo's which were well priced and provided a much quieter drive than previous. Dry performance is excellent as it wet, with tyres only really letting go gradually when pushed really hard or on greasy surface. Wear is excellent after 25k and a single rotation wear is virtually even with 3mm at front 5mm at back. For the price and performance I can't see the need to risk a different tyre when I need to replace. Try them and enjoy.

Writing about the Yokohama AVS DB S2 given 80% (225-45-17-W)
Driving on mostly country roads for 2000 spirited miles
These were fitted (OE) when I bought the car at 16k miles, now done 18k. Fronts look like they'll go to 20k and there's acres of tread remaining on the rear.

Good dry grip, pretty good wet grip and quiet (which is the point of these after all). Will definitely use again.

Writing about the Michelin Pilot Sport given 75% (225-40-18-W)
Driving on mostly country roads for 10000 average miles
These tyres were on the car when I bought it at 3000 miles.
I would not normally go for low profile tyres but as they were fitted I thought I would keep them.
I find the grip very good and the steering very positive but the ride is firm and there is more road noise than I would like.
They look as if they will manage 15000 miles.

Writing about the Falken FK452 given 54% (225-45-17-)
Driving on mostly motorways for 9000 average miles
Bought these on the strength of reviews on this site. 9000 (mainly motorway) miles and the MOT station said they are 65% worn - meaning I'll get about 15K out of them. They perform OK, but nothing special... Poor wear for tyres that have not had a hard life...

I do 18k miles per year. My last tyres were Michelin Primacy. They were a bit pricy so I went for the 452's and I'm disappointed to note that at under 15k miles the fronts need replacing. I got 22k+ from the Micheins. Back to Michelin this time, as whilst the 452 is an OK tyre, and excellent for the money, in the long run well worth paying extra for the Michelin as I don't want to buy tyres every 11 months...!

Writing about the Nexen N6000 given 50% (225-45-17-W)
Driving on mostly country roads for 10000 average miles
These were newly fitted on the rear wheels of the car when I bought it second hand from a Honda dealership. I'd heard of the brand but never bought or knowingly used any Nexen tyres before. Nothing to lose then, I thought. As a qualified engineer, I checked the tyres regularly and the pressures every 2-3 weeks; no obvious problems / loss of pressure. But only 10K miles later and both rears had to be changed; this seems a short life for the rear of a family saloon driven on country roads in an average driving style. The passenger side rear rapidly became a 'slick' in the few weeks after I last checked the tread depth which was somewhat alarming as this happened during the wet winter. Given the uneven wear between the two sides I had the tracking and (multi-link) suspension professionally checked but no problems were picked up. 2 separate mechanics pointed out that the tyres were both evenly worn which makes sense given the lack of problems with the suspension ans tracking. So I can only assume it was the tyres.

Overall the driving experience was fine but unexceptional. Never noticed any obvious 'ditch finding tendencies'. So the tyre is probably safe enough for average drivers but the wear would put me off buying them again. I have done a lot better with Bridgestone and Goodyear in the past (admittedly on another car - Audi A4); obviously considerably more expensive but cheaper per mile.

This has to be one of the worst tyres I've ever had. Dry grip is unremarkable, wet grip is truly appalling! (breakaway is as sudden as it is unannounced). They don't call these things 'Ditch- Finders' for nothing. Avoid.
