Lotus Elan M100 Tyre Review Highlights

Writing about the Nankang NS2R given 77% (205-50-15-)
Driving on mostly country roads for 1000 spirited miles
Replaced a set of Toyo TR1's with these, the 205's are actually 215 wide. They look good too. Much stiffer sidewall giving better turn in and much more direct steering. They don't roll over onto the sidewall either, so the tread stays in contact with the road with no squealing. Dry handling on road or track is excellent with solid feel, good turn in and they hold on well when loaded. Straight line and corner braking performance is very good, solid and confidence inspiring. They will progressively understeer at the limit under power, but that's 200hp in a fwd car. If they do lose traction, they recover easily. Surprisingly good on wet road and track, but they won't cope with much standing water. They're probably quite high rolling resistance, being a sport oriented tyre. Low noise levels as long as you don't drive along the cats eyes. Relatively hard ride due to the firm sidewalls. They appear to be wearing ok. I don't expect too much due to the occasional track day. They are a relatively inexpensive road/track tyre. Excellent for the price and I'd buy again for the Lotus, but not for my daily.

look pretty as tyre wears front starts to track shoulders of tyres have little rubber so hard driving wears tread out on edges center of tyres holds lots of tread even when over inflated to correct wear

Driving on a combination of roads for 8000 spirited miles
Fitted to the rears with Pilot Sports on the front, excellent combination, superb handling, very little wear. A bit twitchy in the wet when originally fitted to the fronts.

If the PE2's are as good then replacement will be no problem.

This tyre is no longer made, which is a pity... A truly excellent tyre which, in my opinion, was only bettered by the MXX2's originally fitted to the Lotus Elan SE, and the MXX3 replacements... The reasons for the 9's in the scoring. In combination with Exaltos on the rear the grip and feedback are terrific.

Will be really stuck for a replacement...

Driving on a combination of roads for 12000 average miles
When I first bought these tyres I was particularly impressed with the grip in the wet and the dry. Although over time the overall grip has deteriorated quite allot, also the braking distance is now very bad basically feels like a badly worn tyre when its still legal!

Cheap tyre with good preliminary grip and progressive feel for a "mid range" boot but the wear on them is just unacceptable especially in these bad times.

I am going for a full set of Uniroyal Rainsport 2 next as they have glowing reviews!

These seem to have been a good choice, the grip in the dry is very good, I tend not to push the car in the wet so it is difficult to get a good view but they seem OK
