Lotus Exige S Tyre Review Highlights

Driving on track for 1500 spirited miles
I have these tyres on an S2 Lotus Exige for trackdays. The dry grip is very good. True to the reviews, it is a very friendly tyre to drive at the limit, as it breaks away predictably and regains grip smoothly which is useful on a car without stability control! Braking distances are very short, which is further evidence of the great grip that they have, I haven't used them on track in the wet, so I cant say how they feel in those conditions. I drive my car to the track, and although the car is not exactly a luxury cruiser, the ride is improved on the broken UK roads over the Avons it had before. I have done 3 trackdays on the tyres so far. The wear issue that I am having is that the shoulders of the rear tyres seem very worn. The centre of the tyre is fine with plenty of tread left (even though it only started with 5mm!). However, the tyres are still providing plenty of grip. I'll try them on one more trackday and see how they fare!

Driving on a combination of roads for 2000 spirited miles
A very good track tyre for a reasonable budget. I replaced it as a cheaper variant of the Yokohama AD048 (LTS- medium compound and special stiff sidewall), which is no longer produced. It simply has all the pros and cons of the semislick tyres- it must warm up for a good function, it's noisy, limited function on water and in the cold. In the dry they are (for 1 tone car) excelent. Very stiff sidewall. When balancing, it was necessary to use often over 100 g weights for almost all pieces, in all dimensions. On my car and with this dimension (Lotus Exige S240, rear axle 225/235x45 R17) a very bad longevity. Around 2000 miles and they were pretty over the limit. I'm not drifting at all. This has never happened to me before or after with other tires. On the front axle (195x50 R16) over 10 000 miles.

I’ve run AD08R ‘s since they were first released. Amazing tyre!

My driving is a mixture of fast road and track use.

I took the new AD08RS’s over to the alps and covered a couple of thousand miles.

The compound is noticeably harder and there is a lot less dry grip. I found them to be quite unpredictable- sometimes they’d grip and others they wouldn’t. Not great when you’re on a mountain pass!

I won’t be buying these again.

Driving on track for 1000 average miles
Love these tyres
They are on my Lotus Exige S2
They have done 3000 miles in road trips to track days
6 full track days and still got 3mm tread on the rears (5mm fronts)
fantastic in the dry & still good in the wet.
Other Lotus guys rate them better than Yoko 48 / toyo r888

Size given for rears - fronts 195/50x16. Review is for the Lotus-specific version of the tyre which has different sidewall stiffness.

Extremely difficult to unstick without provocation in the dry. Pretty much impossible to get the ABS to work braking from high speed, even braking quite clumsily. Very stiff sidewalls hence not very progressive. They need heat in to work, which combined with the relative lack of tread means they're a handful in the wet. On a cold, wet day you can't get enough heat in them for them to work at all which makes it a bit like driving on ice.

Wear - about 2/3 worn after 3000 miles. Comfort - oh come on!
