the tyres hold the road extremely well in the dry and hold their own in the wet, the tyre wear is very good from this "budget" manufacturer.
by far the best tyres I have bought and half the price of the michellin primacy that i had on prior to this change.
would definitely buy again.

I booked a pair of MAXIS MAZ1 tyres to replace my rear ones on my Mazda 5 Sport - Halfords fitted a pair of Nordexx Stratus(No area to rate these) instead as an 'upgrade' as the Maxxis were not available - the Nordexx were dire - with Dynamic Stability Control kicking in at the slightest excuse - with DSC off, the tyres sliding in the dry, and in the wet, positively dangerous, with over steer as the back slid out (with DSC off) - I complained and Halfords replaced the wrongly supplied Nordexx with my original choice - the Maxxis MAZ1 - what a difference.
The Maxxia was safe and sure footed - no slipping or sliding and the DSC not activating at all, even in the wet and pushing the car just to test the level of grip.
Much quieter that the Nordexx ones too.
The tread pattern is very similar to the Uniroyal Rainsport I have on the front.
Too soon to comment on wear, but the Mazda 5 is very hard on tyres anyway.
I would, based on the use to date, buy the MAXXIS MAZ1 Tyres again - the price is excellent, but the performance not down with other budget tyres (as my direct comparison can show).

Fitted to car mid December 2011. Having had a mild Dec and Jan, found the tyres very capable in dry conditions. Stable and comparable performance to a summer tyre. A very quiet and comfortable tyre keeping road noise to a minimum. In the wet, they are very capable, makes the car stable under braking and disperses water efficiently.
Just had heavy snow and I felt a little disappointed! The car moved around side to side quite a bit while travelling over semi compacted snow. Braking was good, car stops effectively with the ABS going off but not a great deal.
The one disappointment I do have is with the ability of the tyres to grip when pulling away in snow. Had almost 30cm of snow and I did get stuck once. Required people to push the vehicle to get it moving. Generally, I find the tyres grapple for grip in this depth of snow. Slush is not an issue.
My car is a MPV with a diesel engine. The description of the tyres say that they are for small to medium cars. My car is neither of those...
I have had Vresdestein Quatrac 3s and Kleber Quadraxers BUT not on this car. I would say the Quatrac 3s out perform the Optimo 4S in snow handling. Cannot sat for the Quadraxers as never used them in snow. Comfort wise, the Optimo 4S and Quadraxers are evenly matched but Quatracs are noisier.
Optimos 4S are very competitively priced!

In spite of other opinions, I like my new S Drives. I had a set before but the new ones obviously have a different carcass than the old ones. One of the things I like about them is that even though ultimate grip may be sacrificed a bit, the breakaway is so progressive that it's easy to tease the limit. My car is properly lowered using good stuff and carefully researched alignment specs. I drive very aggressively and keep my rear sway bar in the full stiff setting so I hang the tail out a lot. The last set lasted three seasons of brutality.

Fitted as standard to the Mazda 5 Sport. They are resonably quiet and handle well in the dry. On hot summer days the compound really starts to work. Although the tread wear on the front and rear are ok, due to the negative camber setup on the front of the Mazda 5, they wear through the inner shoulder and crack the entire tyre carcass long before the tread has worn out.The wet grip is poor. The rears have also cracked with 27,000 mile on, but still with 5mm of tread. Some of the blame lies with Mazda, but some also lies with this tyre.I have had the same problems with 8 tyres. These tyre problems shouldn't happen on an 18 month old car.I am going to try a different make of tyre next to compare.

Changed from Toyo originals to these as they were a 'special deal'. What a massive difference. The steering is so light it feels like they're over inflated by about 15psi.
Avoid them like the plague!

The garage had put these on the car when I'd picked it up. The road feedback was awful, the worst I'd experienced and the car didn't feel positive on the road. The amount of roll was far too much and there didn't appear to be any support in the tyre wall at all. I changed these as sson as I could and bought Barums, which totally changed the feel of the car. More positive feedback, hardly any roll when cornering. Would I buy these, definately not, awful the tyres and have to be the worst I've ever experienced.

Grip in both wet and dry is excellent, the tyres provide a positive feedback. Road noise levels are good. I often do research prior to buying an unknown tyre, but these are as good as the Continental Sports I have on the other car. I would certainly purchase these again without any hesitation.
