Nissan X Trail 2.2 DCi Sport Tyre Review Highlights

Writing about the Nankang NS2 given 92% (245-35-20-W)
Driving on a combination of roads for 200 spirited miles
As my standard 16s were nearing their limit, I decide to chuck my 20s with brand new tyres back on. After reading mixed reviews (though mostly positive) and finding my first choice tyres unavailable I decide on the NS2. I have to say I am extremely happy with the choice.

I payed ?377 for the four tyres from mytyres.co.uk, which were delivered within about 3 days of my order. While the tyre noise is noticeable (more on some surfaces), its by no means intrusive. Having had P-Zeros & Khumos on before I knew the ride comfort wouldn't be affected too much on the X-Trail.

In the dry as you'd expect there is not much to complain about (as with the majority of tyres I guess). The car always gripped well, but ultra low 20s make a big difference whatever the brand. Wet road performance was my main area of interest - and today I found out how good these tyres are and for the price.

I typically travel motorway, some town and a fair stretch of country (A & B) roads to work and back. While not a performance car, I found out today to my joy that the understeer I had been experiencing lately with the standard wheels and tyres (worn) is totally eradicated.. particularly when entering a corner/roundabout too fast and just turning in. The turn-in is very precise and the grip (even under power) seems as it does in the dry... I must try harder!

I've only done around 200+ miles, but these tyres have already given me a high degree of confidence in wet and dry road conditions. After this, the winter (snow) is my only other concern.

Points to note: For those that know little about X-Trails, the car does have an advance 4-wheel drive system called 'all mode 4x4' (a'la Nissan Skyline), which may or may not be playing a part in the wet (I keep it in auto and let the car decide). So its worth bearing that in mind if you base a purchase on my review. Also.. as quick as I drive it, it is a 4x4 not a sports car so reaching the tyre's limit is rarely going to happen unless I do something insane.

Overall, for less than ?100/piece these tyres seem well worth the money. Wet and dry grip insire confidence and road noise is not intrusive. I can't talk about wear rates yet, but other reviews suggest they will last well. Thumbs for to Nankang sport NS2.

Driving on a combination of roads for 39000 average miles
Had a set of four 225/55/17's on my X-Trail Columbia for 39,000 MILES and they are still legal - MOT'd yesterday. I don't drive like an idiot (hopefully) but I don't potter around either. These have had a good work out and will reach 40,000 very soon. Great tyre.

Driving on a combination of roads for 46500 average miles
Had these as original equipment on a 2007 Nissan x-trail turbo diesel. The tyres have just been changed at 46,600 miles. The rears were OK but dry and crazed all over with cracks, the fronts were almost at the legal limit but again, cracks all over. Borrowed pirelli scorpions on my friends spare summer rims but they felt 'wrong' with vague handling from the front in tight corners. I've bought ST20 s again because I like them off road and the surefootedness on the road, even in the rainy uk, (and most sane folk don't tend to push it too much in a 4x4 in the wet) A good solid carcase tyre, never a problem off road, not too noisy, not too 'bouncy'

Driving on a combination of roads for 60000 average miles
Bought the STR to replace the original Dunlop SP200s on my X-Trail. The SP200 lasted for 20,000 miles on the front. The STR has been on for 60,000. No negative comments at all. Plus I have put at least 10k towing miles on these.

A good mix of on and off-road capabilities and noticeably less road noise than the factory fit Dunlops.

Good tyre in the dry, not so sure in the wet. Doesn't seem to lose grip in the cold which is a plus.
