Saab Automobile 2.0T (210bhp) Tyre Review Highlights

Writing about the Pirelli Ice Zero FR given 93% (245-45-17-)
Driving on mostly country roads for 3000 average miles
Used same 4 tires on my previous 2wd and now on my 4wd. Driven alot on snow and ice (Sweden) for three seasons. Only had one minor incident when grip was lost (extremely icy condition with melted water on top during overtake). Beside from this situation I am extremely satisfied with the tires and would recommend them.

Driving on a combination of roads for 18000 spirited miles
Very unpredictable grip during acceleration. On perfect dry new road the car launches like glue without spinning but in all other circumstances (everyday roads, rain, bit dirty roads) they give up completely even with smooth driving. They aren't noisy but the turning is not linear they respond well at initial turning but they dont hold up well in mid turns. Braking is fine nothing crazy. On wet they dont aquaplane as much as brand tires but the grip is much lower on all circumstances. Wouldn't buy again they give bad and *choppy* steering feel

Driving on a combination of roads for 22 average miles
Tyres were on my saab 9-3 aero 250 hp when I bought it. They were on the car for about one year by then.

Not so impressed with these. Dry handling and grip is ok, but not great. Wet grip is bad in my opinion. I have to be carefull when taking corners in the wet because I can feel the car breaking loose easily. I'm spinning wheels in 3rd gear going straight. Road feedback is ok, but not great either. I've had kumho tyres on my previous car, different weight and engine of course (mg zr td 150 hp) but the grip compared to these was fenomenal. Aquaplanning is very good though on these tyres.

They are completely worn out after about 40 000 km. I drive sporty from time to time, but mostly not. I must say they do produce more and more noise now that they are getting worn. In the contrary, the grip stays the same.

I wouldn't buy them again.

Writing about the Nexen N3000 given 46% (225-45-17-W)
Driving on mostly town for 24000 spirited miles
The N3000s were brand new on my Saab 9-3 when I bought it second hand on early 2014 and while these tyres look sharp and have only done 24000 miles since I have had the car I was quite shocked to see a flat tyre. I removed the tyre and couldn’t see any nail or hole so I took it to a local tyre repair shop who said there was a leak in the side wall and that the othree three tyres have an advisory on them for the same issue. I had noticed over the past few months that I had to put air in tyres more frequently but never expected the sidewall to collapse as the tread isnt even half way to 1.6mm. The spare is now on and luckily I dont have to use my car daily as, quite frankly, I dont want to drive it. I am getting Continental Premium Contact 6 tyres fitted later this week and hope they have a bit more grip and longevity.

Writing about the Maxxis Premitra HP5 given 78% (215-55-16-W)
Driving on a combination of roads for 20 average miles
David Burford of Saabtech recommended these tyres to me. My Saab 95 had recently passed its MOT, but I got it in my head to change the Michelin Primacy on the rear and Dunlop Sport Bluresponse on the front. I read the reviews on the Maxxis HP5 manufactured by the 9th biggest tyre company in the world, China's Cheng Shin Tyre Company. With reference to whether the wear of the tyre justifies the cost, my review is this: new budget tyres are much better than worn premium tyres. I won't comment on the highly subjective personal ratings, but point out this tyre is A rated for wet grip, C rated for fuel economy, and certified 70db for noise. Saabtech fit the tyre, balanced and disposal of the old tyre for 55 pounds a corner. Well worth it, I'd say.

Writing about the Avon ZV7 given 83% (225-45-17-)
Driving on mostly motorways for 200 easy going miles
Early days-200 miles since fitted. Noticeably quieter than the [worn] Prestivo S1s and Avon ZV5s they replaced. Have not been pushed to the limits of adhesion when cornering or braking- and hopefully never will be. Useful slight bulge at the side might spare the alloys some time. Impressed so far.

Tried these tyres, NEVER again... Car had a annoying trembly feel to it all the time, especially on very smooth hot mix, wet weather grip VERY unpredictable, tried to balance them several times, then found that were out of round,!! dealer would not take them back, OR refund, Had been buying TOYO Teo from him for ages, on my BMW,s and SAAB,s. Has lost me as a customer.

Honestly, worst piece of rubber I have ever mounted on my car. I bought them one summer when funds were tight, and I regretted it the whole time. DO NOT BOTHER WITH THESE. Trust me.

These things can't grip worth shit in the dry weather. I get wheel spin in 5th gear trying to pass on the highway. Wheel spin at every stop light. Wheel spin coming out of a turn. I have a FWD car with just over 200hp....not exactly a powerhouse.

Surprisingly they are a bit better in wet weather. Noticeably less wheel spin.....but it still happens.

Comfort wise, they are on the sportier side, but I don't mind. I like my tires firmer with good feedback.

Wear was pretty good....until one of the front tires blew.....probably from too much wheel spin.

Basically, what I am saying, spend the extra couple hundred bucks and get a good set of tires. These are not worth the savings. All you'll get is frustration and wheel spin.

In the car repair business and bought these after recommendation from a work colleague.
Thought they would be 2nd rate on my own Saab 9-5 but decided to give them a whirl. Pleasantly surprised at the good all round performance and that includes wet weather. I will buy them again although there is little sign of wear yet. However I will put some on my Kia and maybe that will be a different story. Time will tell! I notice another Saab Aero owner gave a good review. Maybe they suit this car.
