With the Octavia L & K I had to buy 15 inch rims to go with the above tyres; combined they provide the same rolling circumferance as the summer wheels. I've driven on my winter set in ice and snow, never had to use chains in the mountains and drove comfortably and safely on four skiing trips. Currently, ( 22/12/2009) I'm driving around our back roads in Suffolk where many others do not venture. These winter wheels are just brilliant. My local tyre agent changes the wheels around twice a year for free. Another thing, you have to use up rubber anyway so the only extra outlay is the rims!!

Great tyre, can be a little noisy but the best in their price range by far.

Driving on a combination of roads for 30000 average miles
Reaqing reviews to judge the next purchase is difficult. I have had these SP 01;s on since new and they've done just over 30K, and need changing soon. My car is a heavy diesel FWD and the tyres have been rotated, but IMHO getting 30K out of a set of tyres when I tend not to drive to slowly is not to bad. Alternatives I was considering all appear to wear out around 20K such as the Kuhmo KU31's, whats the point of buying cheaper if they last 50% less?. These tyres will take me safely across the uk and back in a day, from suffolk, I can drive in all weathers with no concerns over cornering and road conditions, I find no concern in the wet or dry. Will buy again cos spending £400 on a new set of tyres only to find you don't like em is not my idea of fun.....

Writing about the Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 given 64% (225-45-17-W)
Driving on a combination of roads for 35 average miles
General driving style, Goodyear GSD3's have the best grip(Wet or Dry) but only lasted 16,000 on the front the inside edge gone, outside edge 3mm, ( due to camber).
Was really disappointed with life of these- overall 5/10

Car came with them all round as stock. Replaced the fronts almost right away as grip/traction felt poor and had cracks along the grooves when I got the car with 9k miles on it.

Replaced with Potenza S-03s which were much better.. I was starting to forget how much better until I recently rotated the tyres putting the orginal rear dunlops back on front. WoW, I really appreciate just how good the S-03s are now.

Although I've already ordered some Falken FK452s to try on the front.

Dunlops to be avoided imho.

Driving on a combination of roads for 500 spirited miles
On the Octavia (turbo) I found a big increase in traction over the Eagle NCT5's,with far better cornering in wet conditions.

In all, a very good tyre for a very good price.

(f your driving style is "sporty" then pay a bit more & go for the Rainsport 2)

Writing about the Bridgestone Potenza RE040 given 47% (225-45-17-W)
Driving on a combination of roads for 20000 average miles
General driving style, Grip OK, feel a bit vague near the linit, front tyres destroyed after 19,000 due to tracking out by 0.5mm. Rears after 3 years old (4.5mm)failed MOT due to mis-shape (both). Replaced with goodyears would not buy these Bridgestones again ever!

Writing about the Dunlop SP Sport 3000 given 41% (205-55-16-V)
Driving on mostly country roads for 15 average miles
Driven on regular 50 mile commute in Scottish Borders on A-roads and some city driving. Very average performance compared with Continentals and Michelins I have had before. OK in wet conditions, just don't over cook it into corners, absolutley hopeless in the snow and ice!!! Wouldn't buy again, average tyre for average price.

These were fitted to the car (front only)when I bought it second hand, and although there was plenty of tread left, I couldn't get rid of them fast enough. When I tried to accelerate from a standing start, I found the wheels scrabbling and the nose of the car waving all over the place. No grip at all. Cornering was a nightmare, as was braking. And that was on a dry road. I'll leave the wet to your imagination, but as I drive a lot, including on German motorways(120mph plus), they had to go. Since I've fitted the Bridgestone Turanzas I usually use, the car goes the way it's supposed to. Never, ever fit Sava tyres to anything except an ox cart.
