First class product! more expensive than a standard winter tyre but well worth the money as they are a performance winter tyre, i can only say that you get what you pay for in life!, i ran a set of Michelin Alpins last winter on my last car these but Goodyears offer superior traction & grip compared to them especially when braking & cornering on snow & ice there is also great recovery from these tyres if you push to hard they will search & bite for grip, you only have to touch & feel the compound & sipes on them to know how they will perform, they remain very plyable & supple even down to very low temps, i've ran them at minus 18 degrees C & you can still easily bend the outer sipes with your thumb nail, but in normal conditions the sipes remain closed as a tight block until required improving handling in the dry & improving general wear, they are an intelligently designed product!
The inner directional tread pattern & outer blocks bite into snow covered roads & offer exceptional traction when climbing hills,( i know from experience of where i live, i don't get stuck but other people do! ) the directional pattern helps to evacuate slush & snow quickly so maintaining grip on long subzero temp journeys, & also improving grip on standing water in turn reducing aquaplaning. I'm not worried about tyre wear as these tyres are designed to do a specific job & keep you safe, of course there is going to be certain compromises but so far they are wearing extremely well. In all i have been using these tyres for over 45 days now in these UK winter conditions most of which has been challanging driving on snow & ice & slush, but every time i drive my car they put a massive smile on my face with the confidence & winter performance that they offer... Writing about the Avon Ice Touring given 96% (215-55-16-)
Driving on a combination of roads for 5000 spirited miles
Excellent, Superb, awesome.
My sedate Passat estate handled like a 4x4 in the recent snow and ice,I am now able to tackle snow covered hills with ease. If you are contemplating a set of winter boots then do it, wether you buy these or another make, get a branded set of winter tyres and you won't believe the difference. Wet grip is also excellent.

Writing about the Yokohama W Drive given 90% (205-55-16-V)
Driving on mostly motorways for 15000 spirited miles
Excellent all-round tyre for winter. It's not a genuine hardcore winter tyre like Nokian Hakappelita, but I guess it's better than other Nokians. Excellent for driving on asphalt in winter. Even managed to get out from wet ground off the road while my right side was on road with ice. Not pricey. Would buy again.

Writing about the Michelin Pilot Sport 3 PS3 given 90% (225-45-17-W)
Driving on a combination of roads for 500 average miles
So far so good, replaced a front pair of Pirelli P Zero Rosso's which were on when I bought it second hand. They spun in first and second all through the winter and were shocking in wet and dry but they may have been old tyres. PS3's on the other hand haven't slipped once and I've tried to push them especially pulling away when turning at junctions. Seem to stick well and hold on in the bends. Good acceleration now without wheel spin. Too new to comment on noise and wear but will post again in a couple of months and will no doubt replace the rears with the same. £280 the pair fitted locally.

Driving on a combination of roads for 5000 average miles
Fantastic tyre. Probably the best tyre i have ever bought! It handles really well in both wet and dry conditions, they feel really responisve and the noise is significantly lower than other premium options. nice smooth ride and reasonable wear. Well done Goodyear. I would definatley recommend these over the leading "well know brands" as they give the same results at a reduced cost.

Writing about the Hankook Winter i cept evo given 90% (215-55-16-H)
Driving on a combination of roads for 3000 average miles
These are quality yet reasonably priced winter tyres. Thanks to the recent wintry weather, I have now driven them in all conditions dry, wet, snow and ice. Found them excellent in the snow, and very predictable on ice. They really give you a feeling of safety in these wintry conditions.

Cannot comment on wear yet as only been on the car for a relatively short period.

Writing about the Uniroyal Rainsport 2 given 87% (225-45-17-W)
Driving on a combination of roads for 20000 average miles
VW put these on the front at its last Service and First MOT. Didnt really care what they put on as long as it was a good all round trye as i do 20k+ miles a year.

Never noticed much to start with as i was doing alot of city driving but the other week when going down to Dumfries on the back roads i really noticed. Especially since i was making similar time on wet slushy roads as i was in the summer with the Hankooks that were on the car. I was realy surprised at the grip.

Car never wheel spins away anymore when it did on the tyres supplied with the car. and laterly the Hancooks.

Whats more surprising is the price. Managed to get a rear pair them from Kwickstitch for £215 which was way below VW (£260 and a fair few online "cheap sites")
great to have all the same tyres on the car again.

Writing about the Bridgestone Turanza ER300 given 83% (215-55-16-W)
Driving on mostly motorways for 52000 average miles
The tyres were fitted at the front of FWD car all the time. The grip level was very good in dry and wet, the drive was quiet and with comfortable ride on mostly motorway journeys all year round. The distinct advantage in comparison to other tyres was the hard wearing, long lasting quality - 52k miles.
