Fantastic budget tyre that is very quiet and lasts twice as long as the soft continental tyres the car came with and only costs ?90

Great tyres,I ripped the original p zeros apart, on the potholed roads. They had only done 6000 miles.
The wintracs are far superior in every respect except hot weather hi speed motoring.
They are quieter, more comfortable, do not track all over the road like the p zero's and are unbelievable in the snow.
Oh, and they are 1/2 price too!!

They are finally down to the wear indicators after 19,000 miles on the front of my XC90, and I have been happy with wear, noise, grip, etc.
However, being less than 2 years old I am concerned at the rubber tread blocks perishing - you can get the end of a finger nail under the corner of some blocks.
My tyre dealer has said there's not much he can do as they are so worn (although I'm not trying to claim for a new set given the use they have had).
Just wondered if anyone else had reported such perishing or if you had encountered it?
Car has not been raced or rallied, off roaded significantly, no excessive cornering/maneuvering, etc.
Tyres fitted March 1999, manufacture date is August 2008
Thanks

I have had Continental tyres before and they were great but seemed to wear a little too quickly (maybe 16000 miles on the front of a 2.0TDi Audi A6) but these are the first I've had on an SUV (XC90 2.4TDi) and they have done very well - 21000 miles on the front and I still have 4-5mm of tread on the back pair. Very impressed with the quality from all perspectives :-)

The original fit tyres were Continental all weather tyres. The Vredestein Wintracs fitted since are notably more comfortable, offer better wet road grip and are very good in snow. Recent deep snow demonstrated just how good they were, as the car managed quite steep inclines with ease and kept going even when the snow was deeper than the ground clearance. Still need caution on ice, as no tyre can overcome the laws of physics! The penalty is the Wintracs wear faster than the Continentals (which I suppose proves they are a softer rubber compound to better cope at low temperatures).

Installed them for offroad use.
Where the previous Michelin Diamaris were slipping on steep hills of gravel and snow, the Latitude Cross got the car up to the top smoothly.
The tread is much deeper, and the tires have always gotten the car pass the mud and snow sections effortlessly.
Badly, Michelin has only one size in 18".

These came standard on my XC90 RDesign, not a sporty car by any means. I have no idea why they are fitted to a 4x4 SUV, they will be lucky to do 11,000 miles

Additional bonus for UK based users, are that these tyres are made in the UK. Confirmed with Avon directly, that they are produced in Melksham, Wilshire and are stamped on the tyres ‘Made in England’.
Nice to see at least some quality products are still manufactured in the UK!
