2011 European Summer Tyre Test - 195/65 R15

With Spring in the air, ADAC have just published their massive 2011 Summer tyre test covering 33 tyres! This year they've chosen to test two smaller sizes of tyres, 195/65 R 15 V and 175/65 14 T. While these tyre sizes are slightly more relevant to the European market compared to the big-wheel obsessed UK, it's still a good indication of who's doing well in 2011.

As usual with ADAC tests, the results are based on pure data with no subjective scores included. The tests are weighted in favour of wet grip, which is awarded 40% of the overall score. A further 20% is given to the dry weather tests, 10% based on how noisy / comfortable the tyres are, 10% on the rolling resistance of the tyre and 20% based on the wear.

ADAC also included a few extreme budget tyres in this test, which aren’t covered by the Tyre Reviews database. Unsurprisingly, the performance of these extreme budget tyres was abysmal, further highlighting that with tyres at least, you do get what you pay for!

Here are the 195/65 R 15 V results. You can view the 175/65 14 T scores here.

Also included in the 195/65 R15 tyre test were the "Point S Summer Star 2" and the "Chengshan CSR66". While the Point S matched the Sava intensa HP scores, the Chengshan only managed to score 1 point in the wet tests!
