185/55 14 Tyre Review Highlights

Yokohama S Drive rated 76% while driving a Toyota Starlet 1996
Driving on a combination of roads for 31069 average miles
make: Toyota Starlet 1.3 primo 16V 1998. Driving style: Rather medium to fast. Driving Roads: Highways but also bad country roads. First tire 1998-2003: michelin 175/60/13 did not last though soft. second tire: Michelin energy saver plus: liitle better but sides also soft. change to 185/55R14 with s.drive.I found my health. Reasons: a) My starlet is all mechanichal (No hydraylic steering, no ABS,no TCS). This tire helped me cause has the tension to oversteer if the turn angle begins to close a liitle bit further. b) Feeling the steering wheel and the tires enough simultaneously (at dry and wet also) is something i like. I want to feel the car not the automatic controls at any speed. The comfort is something i had to forget cause of Cayaba's front and rear, but i had confidence in open angle turns with high speed. This tire though is really great at summer not the winter times. After 2 years it start slippping and spinning at glassy roads though it is hard stuff but i have a heavy foot too.going to the country with open windows i liked the tire sound couse i heard the little stones going through the tire lines and sometimes i stopped and cleared them before the highway. i rebought 2011-2016 and 2016-2021. 4.5 to 5 years 15000km a year approximatly. One mysterious phenomenon. Although the valves were good and Rims were good, the tire Sides after 4.5 years (Greece-too hot country) the tire loosing air from the Rim sticking (is tubeless remember), so i oblidged to change them. The great disadvantage is the snow. Although you can drive them at snow if you are an artist of driving theese does not stop at all if braking at snow. but they had the tollerance at ice not to crack also at hard roads and hard parking......i liked them but i feel they are too expensive now.

Toyo Proxes CF2 rated 73% while driving a Peugeot 106 gti
Driving on a combination of roads for 10000 spirited miles
Ideal for average driving of a family car but surely not the one that will keep grip and handling on such a level to enjoy driving a small sport gti, feeling safe and ready to full power at any time. Good on wet. To cut a long story sort, it was a totally wrong proposal for my 106 gti, since production of the perfect for my needs,Yokohama Sdrive, has stopped.

Viking CityTech II rated NAN% while driving a Suzuki Swift
Driving on a combination of roads for 15000 average miles
Driving for More than 25 000km, bought Suzuki Swift 2002 (old model) Front tyres are almost no wear, and rear can be used for 25 000km more I guess. I test them on around 0C temperature and they perform good (no snow conditions). On wet they perform not so well anymore... For the price next time I'll buy Vederstein Qutrac5 all season.

Federal SS595 SUPER STEEL rated 64% while driving a Hyundai Getz
Driving on a combination of roads for 1000 spirited miles
I bought these tires mostly for their looks cause even thought the size was 185/55/14 they seemed more meaty and wider like a 195/55/14 size. I guess Federal is one of these brands that make tires look 1 size wider than they suppose to be, well that suits fine for me, they looked amazing BUT that was the only good thing about those tires. The dry grip was just ok and in the wet i was too afraid to push them hard due to the fact that i have heard many negative reviews about their wet grip so i had little experience in wet driving and with low speed so i would say that they were just passable. And now let's go for the BIG downfall.
The first thing i immediately noticed was a strange trembling in the brake pedal every time i was breaking even in very slow speeds. I don't know if that had to do with the tread pattern or what but the feeling i was getting from this was unsecured, frustrating and like i was steeping over little rocks all the time. And there were worst to come... Secondly the tires were extremely noisy and i mean in an UNBEARABLE way. They were making a weird noise that i have never heard before on a tire, like a helicopter's propeller kind of thing. Even with a loud exhaust (muffler delete) i was still able to hear that irritable noise! I would never buy these tires again and i wouldn't recommend them for confident secure driving. They only worth trying them for their looks and if you drive them only for shows in closed stages for drifting burnouts and stuff but not on the street.

Dunlop Sport BluResponse rated 89% while driving a Hyundai Getz
Driving on a combination of roads for 0 spirited miles
I bought a used pair of these tires in mid condition and their performance was still incredible.
Quality rubber that after so many miles on them they had amazing grip especially in the rain when i drove under the storm and i was able to speed up with confidence and split the rivers in half like Jesus! Dry grip was very good too but then i was even more thrilled when i realized that my gas mileage was improved significantly and last but not least they were one of the most quiet on the market too. Hands down these tires are top notch and i would highly recommend them to anyone cause they are simply amazing in every aspect.

Kumho Ecowing ES01 KH27 rated 86% while driving a Peugeot 106 s16
Driving on a combination of roads for 1000 spirited miles
Overall very very pleased with these tires. Used BF Goodrich and Toyo previously and both were just horrible in the rain as well as thread wear. These feel like a much more expensive/premium tire. Will fit them on more vehicles. Congrats for this quality.

Nankang Toursport 611 rated 69% while driving a Volkswagen Golf mk2 1.6 petrol 51kw
Driving on mostly town for 12000 average miles
These tyres came on my car when i bought it. I actually quite enjoy them in dry conditions and in the wet too. You just have to make sure that you're careful about your driving becouse they grip well on dry surfaces but in the wet it can be scary. It's very easy to lock up your wheels when braking in the wet and when turning you can feel them start losing grip, but it was pretty fun on my gutless mk2 golf. On hillstarts i could spin wheels all day long. Sometimes even in second gear. The wear was pretty great too. They where used for one season already when i bought them and now it's my third season on them. There's still quite a lot of life left in them.

Accelera Eco Plush rated 56% while driving a Honda CIVIC 1.6 VTEC
Driving on a combination of roads for 0 average miles
Was a good tire for the daily drive but when it comes to spirited driving, it has no grip AT ALL. Severe understeer and unresponsive input when i steer. Trying to launch with this tire will just result in tire spin even at low rpm. It lasts long but at the cost of grip in the wet. Would recommend ONLY IF its just for the mundane daily drive, otherwise, don't get this tire.

Sava intensa rated 44% while driving a Volkswagen Polo GTI
Driving on mostly motorways for 20000 spirited miles
Had 2 fitted to my VW Polo. They were very soft so they didn't last long but had good grip in the dry, As soft tyres they don't react fast to direction changes but were very confortable on a straight line.
When new they had good wet grip but lost it only after the first 2000-3000km. Imagine that your tyres are only good for this long: In the long run it turns into a very expensive tyre for such a low performance,

Michelin Energy Saver Plus rated NAN% while driving a Volkswagen Polo 1.4 TDI
Driving on mostly country roads for 15000 spirited miles
I have had these on a the front of a 6n2 tdi 2001 polo with perfect geometry although there is extra camber due to the car being low. Having only been used to budget tyres before I have found these excellent.
In the wet they are progressive and have enough grip for me .
Due to money being an issue I have Avon zz5 s on the rear and they cannot compare and on wet days at roundabouts they often decide to let me know by stepping out slightly.
The michelin are at the end of life now and on one of them there is cracking along the tyre all around the tread bed but they have not degraded in the grip department.
I am not sure how long they lasted but I think it was quite a while and I will buy the same again.
