215/70 16 Tyre Review Highlights

Firestone Vanhawk 2 rated 73% while driving a Mercedes Benz Vito
Driving on mostly motorways for 6000 spirited miles
I fitted these to 2021 Merc Vito 116 SWB.
The stock tyres were Continental Vancontact 200, which were well worn by 50k kms.
My first thoughts of the Firestones was that I'd made an awful mistake by having these fitted.
I was almost going to turn around after a few 100km and see if they would replace them with something with better traction.
However as it turns out the break in period for these tyres is unusually long, I would say at least 1500km before I felt that these tyres gave sufficient grip to be safe.
Now after 10k kms I have either developed a tolerance for them but objectively they offer great grip for me in most conditions and even in heavy rain have delivered good handling characteristics.
If you require good grip and handling straight after fitment then these may not be for you but as a driver with many years of experience with many vehicles and tyres I can assure you that after a while these tyres will start to feel much better, maybe its a lot of mould release compound trapped in the rubber but I have never experienced such a long break-in period as with these tyres.

Nokian Hakkapeliitta 10 SUV rated 77% while driving a Volkswagen Caravelle
Driving on mostly country roads for 12400 average miles
I have the hakkapelitta 10 on my 2014 VW Caravelle (only front wheel drive) as a dedicatet winter tyre. Here in northern Norway the roads are covered with hard packed snow and ice for almost 5 months of the year. Occasionally we get a change in the weather pattern and it dumps a lot of rain on the icy roads.

After two winters i can now say that the hakkapelitta 10 is the best option for those extrem conditions. They grip well on the slippery surfaces in high speeds and loose traction in a slow and controlled manner. Before, i lived in the southern parts of Norway, where i had the hakkapelitta R8, which is a non studded winter tyre. It felt like that the non studded winter tyre was better in digging itself throug deep snow and it was quieter when cornering, but that where the only advantages of the non studded winter tyre to the hakkapelitta 10.

It is hard to judge how the treadwear is after now 20.000km of winter driving. The tyres get only driven on mostly hard packed snowy and icy country roads and in the town. There is not that much driving on bare asphalt in the winter months, so the rubber of the tyres almost doesn`t wear at all. Like 1mm after two winters. And the studs are still all there, still looking like new. Here in the nordics we usually buy new winter tyres when the old ones get so old that the rubber hardens. The last studded winter tyres i had to change had still 6mm of depth in the profile and all the studs where still there, but they were 8 years old which hade made the rubber hard.

Radar RPX900 rated 85% while driving a Jeep Patriot
Driving on mostly motorways for 5000 easy going miles
The ride is so smooth and very quiet. It is so comfortable driving with these tires. Driving style is easy going that is why, there are still a lot of life on the tires after driving for more than 5000 miles.

Bridgestone Dueler AT 001 rated 77% while driving a Nissan X Trail
Driving on a combination of roads for 18000 spirited miles
Decent a/t tyre both on dry and wet pavement.off road manages pretty good,on dry and mud, average on snow, with low lateral grip.
At 30000kms seems like there are 10000kms to go.i would recommend them and buy again

Hankook Dynapro HP2 RA33 rated 87% while driving a Mitsubishi ASX 2
Driving on a combination of roads for 25000 easy going miles
I bought these tyres in 2020 and until today they have 40.000km. I used them approximately 40% in they city, 55% on highway and 5% for light off road. In the city tyres are great but I would like little better comfort when I pass on big holes with slow speed. The comfort during trips is much better with higher speeds. I am satisfied from breaking and handling under all weather conditions. The consumption is good and the road noise is low. Also the tyres are very acceptable for very light off road mini adventures. I am planning to replace them in 1,5 year and 99% I will buy them again.

Nokian Outpost APT rated 96% while driving a Volvo xc70, 2.4t, 200bhp
Driving on a combination of roads for 12000 spirited miles
I’ve had them for about half a year now and I LOVE these tires. Very, very much a happy camper. Ride is surprisingly supple. A little added road noise, slight roar over regular All-Seasons but not noticeable unless you look for it. I’ve daily’d these tires from 90F (32C) to the now constant 15F (-10C) and I have yet to hit a situation where I’ve said “I wish I had a different tire”. They’ve seen hundreds of miles of dirt, gravel and off-road use, as well as about 10k miles of highway use. In the constant snow/ice conditions we have currently where I live they have done better than all but the best snow tires I’ve owned, which happen to be Nokian’s own Hakkapilitta line and Michelin’s X-Ice line. Much, much more confident than the Hankook snow tires I had on one of my other cars. If you're going between Trail/AT-Lite tires like these or conventional All-Terrains, Consider this: I had recently taken a 300 mile road-trip, 50 miles of which was gravel, dirt, and rocky forest roads and the APT’s performed marvelously. I hit spots and rocks that would have easily popped or damaged regular All-Seasons or All-Weathers and the APT’s ate them up. That's the type of trip that I see the APT’s beating out regular AT’s, as it wouldn’t have been worth making 80% of the trip worse just to be slightly better for that short 20% stint.

Cooper Discoverer AT3 Sport 2 SUV rated 73% while driving a Audi A6 Allroad 2.5
Driving on mostly motorways for 10000 easy going miles
I'm using these tires mainly on-road. I am substituting a road tire with expectation for more ruggedness as a pies of mid when I do go on rough terrain during ca. 5% of the time. They are surprisingly quiet and comfortable on asphalt, I don;t mind that the tire has vague and numn handling, I am using it on a heavy family car.

Continental AllSeasonContact rated 94% while driving a Hyundai ix35
Driving on a combination of roads for 8000 spirited miles
These tires are amazing, previously i had used winter/ summer tire accordingly and never dared to buy all season, but after buying this I can confidently say I am never going back. For dry they are amazing, only slip has occurred when you aggressively dump the clutch near a stop light. Corners can be taken confidently and with a lot of speed. The wet grip is excellent. 140-150 kph in an autostrada during rain is no problem, car feels planted. Never felt any aquaplaning. Looking forward to seeing how they handle in snow and ice as this will be my first winter with them.

Nexen N Priz RH1 rated 73% while driving a Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross 4x4
Driving on mostly country roads for 15000 average miles
They came as standard on my Eclipse Cross Mitsubishi SUV.I can say that they are very comfortable with minimum rolling resistance and noise. They perform pretty well on dry road as far as braking and handling is concerned. On wet road....I drive with a tight stomach! The feedback is almost scary,I wouldn't recommend them to drivers living in wet climate!I think that I would buy Nexens again because I consider them as vfm but certainly not this model!

Toyo Proxes CF2 SUV rated 87% while driving a Hyundai ix35
Driving on a combination of roads for 50000 easy going miles
Had these tyres for 5 summer seasons (DOT 2515), and i am happy to say they are wonderfull. The dry grip is excelent, you really have to push hard to break traction. Wet grip is ok, i would say on a spirited turn they might break contact, but no aquaplaning ever detected. The road noise is manageble, atleast a lot better than my winter tyres (yokohama g075). After about 80000km i stil have ~4mm of thread, but no rubber cracking or any other problems.

Michelin Latitude Cross rated 71% while driving a Mitsubishi Outlander
Driving on a combination of roads for 0 spirited miles
I have found these tyres to be very predictable in both wet and dry. When pushed hard the weight of the PHEV and the high profile of the tyre contribute to the car understeering in both wet and dry conditions. I find these tyre quite comfortable. In winter I drive up windy mountain roads to the snow. On snow these have been the best cornering and breaking SUV tyres I've ever had. I can't comment regarding ice as I have minimal time in those conditions. They are predictably noisier than a road tyre but the only time it is really noticeable is when speaking hands free on the phone. I'm on my second set and will buy again if I don't go to a winter specific tyre next time. I travelled about 45,000km on my last set and I'm experiencing a similar wear rate this time. Apart from enhanced grip in mud and snow I bought these tyres due to the robust side walls to use on dirt roads and tracks, they have not let me down and have reduced my anxiety of tyre damage when travelling in out of the way places without a spare.

Michelin Latitude tour HP rated 73% while driving a Kia Motors Sportage
Driving on mostly town for 0 easy going miles
Last for 11 years(2011-2022) as OEM on KIA Sportage 1.7 2011. I drive them only from April-november. No garage, harsh sun every day. But on snow catastrophic. Had to buy winter ones. Now they are all cracked but I still drive them maybe few weeks untill I find new ones. When accelerate hard they slip a lot but overall very good tire. Expensive not affordable for change.
