255/40 17 Tyre Review Highlights

Pirelli Powergy rated 56% while driving a BMW 330d

Hankook Ventus RS4 rated 71% while driving a Honda S2000
Driving on mostly town for 20000 spirited miles
Rs4 gives amazing grip but only in the most ideal conditions. Getting temp into these tyres is quite difficult, but once warmed up they grip very well. The grip is predictable but certainly not the best. Works very well in sunny weather. Cooler weather or rain makes it more difficult. Speaking of rain, this is not an all season kind of tyre so can't expect the best traction from this set. The sidewall is stiff and gives great response and feedback, but high road noise as an unfortunate compromise. The stiffness does compound if you run a higher spring rate or high dampening but can be OK as an all season however not recommended. Wear on the tyre is very good, long lasting with this harder compound. Don't expect comfort but this is a good track or weekend mountain carving tyre.

Landsail LS588 UHP rated 91% while driving a Alfa Romeo Giulietta
Driving on a combination of roads for 8000 spirited miles
I’ve had Pirelli, Bridgestone the lot and I always come back to landsail. Great tyre. I drive an Alfa Romeo so drive hard into corners and hold the limits where I can. They are responsive and hold the road really well. They don’t sag or roll. Grip is very good in dry. Wet is good also. Not sure why they are reviewed as average.. bizarre. I think they are amazing value for money. To the point you can replace every 8000miles instead of having to try and ekk out every last mile on premium brands.

Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 Connect rated 55% while driving a BMW 135i
Driving on track for 2000 spirited miles
Used the tires primarely on the track (time attack events and practices) and driving to the track. The dry grip was pretty ok, but it was hard to drive the car close to the limit, as tires gave very little feedback and it felt like the sidewall was very soft. Rather a lot of understeer and some unexpected oversteer as well. After just 2 short sessions on the track I have noticed that one of the tread segments (1 of 4) started to wear significantly, especially on front tires. I was very carefull with tire pressure, following Michelin recommendations all the time. Very soon big parts of this tread segment started to just fall out, while the rest of the tread was rather very good. After that, I made a reclamation to the tire seller and currently waiting for a results of the examination. To be honest - very dissapointed with tires performance and behaviour. For over 250 EUR per tire, I was expecting a lot more.

Hankook Ventus S1 evo2 rated 64% while driving a BMW 530D
Driving on mostly motorways for 9000 average miles
Fitted on the rear. Very good levels of grip in dry and wet, absolutely no complaints about that. As a drawback, the wear was terrible. After 13k kilometers I had slicks in the rear. I drive 120km a day and most of the time on a highway. Sometimes I hit the throttle but most of the I cruise very relaxed. Disappointed in the fast wear at this size.

Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 rated 93% while driving a Porsche Boxster 2.5
Driving on mostly town for 25000 spirited miles
These were fantastic tyres, could not fault them , had them on a old astra 2.2 a while ago, same again very very good, shame they have gone up so much in price, now over £150 each yet in 2016 i got a pair for £200.

Pirelli P Zero rated 59% while driving a BMW 330
Driving on a combination of roads for 10000 spirited miles
Gouged the sidewall on a nearly new Goodyear F1 while negotiating a narrow lane in Devon, Pirelli was the only quality alternative available. Plenty of dry grip but not so good in the wet. worn out after 10K, abysmal. The Goodyear F1 on the same axle was about half worn despite 2000 more miles. Won't ever buy Pirelli again, not a patch on the F1 for mileage and not that hot on grip.

Accelera PHI rated 43% while driving a Mercedes Benz C280 sport
Driving on mostly motorways for 25000 spirited miles
Ok, 1st ok all I am based in Egypt. I have a W204 C300 Merc AMG Edition 1. Heavy car with 235hp RWD staggered setting and adaptive sport suspension. 225/45R17 Front & 255/40R17 Rear. These tyres were newly fitted to my car when I bought it second hand with 30K miles on the clock. Handled accaptably on decent driving. But wore pretty quick we complete deformation on the rear pair with some kickdowns and speeding. I do a lot of long travels along well paved roads. Like 3 hours at 110-120 MPH. Caused awful wandering due to side wall deformation and the steel lining broke completely and caused lateral pull that took a lot of time by the dealer to discover it was actually the tyres causing it. Will never fit them again. Never.

Bridgestone Potenza S02A rated 76% while driving a Porsche BOXSTER 2.7
Driving on a combination of roads for 30000 average miles
Just about to renew all 4 tyres after 30 months & 30,000 miles. Driven daily in all weathers, I found they performed very well, dry grip & road holding I couldn't fault, wet grip & road holding couldn't fault either even now as I'm about to replace them & they at the limit of their wear. Good grip & road holding in the snow to, although they wear a little skittish in the last snow (march 2018) but not surprising given they are at end of their life. These tyres wear very well compared to the Pirelli PZero Rosso that were on before with18,000 miles driven on them before needing to replace them. Only fault these tyres have is in the cold weather when both comfort & grip suffer a little until they warm up but on really cold days they need to be driven
a little more cautiously. I drive steadily generally but do some spirited driving reasonably often as well. I would have no hesitation in reccomending these tyres to a fellow Boxster owner.

Atlas Sport Green rated 86% while driving a Mercedes Benz C180 Kompressor Elegance Se saloon
Driving on mostly motorways for 4000 spirited miles
IMy car is RWD and before Nokian zLine were mounted on rear.
The Atlas Sport Green provides tons of grip on wet and dry roads...always give me a suberb grip.

I also have driven Continental SportContact2 and 3 and 5,but the Atlas give me such agood performance that I never have the desire to go back to Conti tyres.
I drive a lot on the german Autobahn with speeds over 140 mph and always give me a good and safe traction on all road surfaces.

I'm really satisfied with these tyres and driven 4000km's and still have 6mm threat left on rear.
