225/55 19 Tyre Review Highlights

Vredestein Ultrac Satin rated 59% while driving a Nissan X Trail
Driving on mostly town for 20000 easy going miles
Fitted to a Nissan X-Trail 7 seater. They have lasted well, the fronts stayed on the front for the life of the tyre and we've had 20,000 miles out of them, down to the UK legal limit (1.6mm). The rears still have about 4mm left, however are perishing after 4.5 years, where the tread meets the sidewall they are cracked all round. They're still an MOT pass, however I think they'll probably fail next year.

I'd rate these tyres as good value. At the time I bought in 2018 they were slightly cheaper than any premium brand. First impressions were very good, however grip did worsen over the years, it seems the tyres get quite a lot harder as they wear down. Wet grip under braking has always been good, even when worn low, so safety for a family car has overall been very good. However wet grip cornering has been fair to poor. Fine for everyday driving where we live (outer London), but not so good if you regularly drive fast twisty A roads. Grip under acceleration on our front wheel drive (open diff) car has also been fair to poor in both wet and dry.

Noise was a minor issue, perhaps more to do with the car than the tyres. However moving to Goodyear now I've noticed they're quieter and have a less intrusive sound on motorways. The Vredestein's are more for comfort than for performance, however the noise does let them down a little. Handling and feedback are not strong points for these tyres, as expected.

Overall a good choice if they're around 15-20% cheaper than a premium brand, however I found spending slightly more recently got us a better tyre (however only 1000 miles driven).

Michelin CrossClimate 2 rated 93% while driving a Toyota RAV4
Driving on mostly country roads for 200 average miles
Fitted these tyres to my RAV4 Hybrid. They were far superior to any previous tyres.

Continental CrossContact LX Sport rated 88% while driving a Honda
Driving on mostly motorways for 45 spirited miles
I bought my Honda CRV AWD Touring in March 2021 right out of the Honda showroom. I have just over 50,000 miles in 2.5 years. The tires still have a certified tread of 5/32 (2) and 4/32 (2). They were rotated at the Honda dealership at oil changes-at least 5 times over that time period. I drive approximately 85 - 90 % highway and during all the seasonal changes that living in NE Ohio brings. In dry weather, typical speed is 75 -80 mph. These tires have seen me through ice, snow, sleet, rain, and dry weather. I plan on purchasing them again before this winter begins.

Goodyear EfficientGrip 2 SUV rated 90% while driving a Mazda cx5
Driving on mostly motorways for 10000 average miles
I was looking a new summer tires for my Mazda cx5 because when I bought it there were some unknown sporty summer tires from last owners. There were actually really good on dry, fast cornering and so but on the wet really unpredictable. So I started watching your videos and thanks to you decided for Efficient Grip 2.For 19 inch tire it's fair amount comfortable, grip on wet is really important because I drive on autobahn every day to work and till know I never had risky situation in fast cornering or heavy rain.Never tested it on off-road or some grass. All in all I am definitely buying this tire again considering the price.

Pirelli CINTURATO P7 rated 37% while driving a Ford
Driving on mostly town for 30125 easy going miles
Apart from original equipment tires, which are often complete junk, these are the worst tires I've ever had. I drive carefully, rotate and air check my tires faithfully. But I barely got 30k out of these. Numerous flats, including an irreparable one that precipitated my replacing them all, as my tread was down to 3/32" anyway. Quiet enough, but nothing special. Very disappointed, as I had considered Pirelli to be a premium brand.

Avon AX7 rated 85% while driving a Land Rover Discovery 3
Driving on a combination of roads for 13000 average miles
Just a fantastic all-rounder. Quiet on the motorway, grippy off road, great manners on road. And a bargain too.

Hankook Dynapro AT2 rated 61% while driving a Land Rover Discovery 4
Driving on a combination of roads for 0 average miles
I was talked to getting Hancock Dyna Pro AT2 tires from Bob Jane and I wish I'd never heard of them.
The tires have good traction and all the things that you desire, but the road noise from them in the cabin is just a terrible drumming noise that drives you nuts. I've driven about 40,000 km on it and enough is enough I can't stand it anymore.
I'll either go to Toyo's that I've had for years on our other vehicles or Pirelli's but not Hancook anymore.

Goodyear EfficientGrip 2 SUV rated 92% while driving a Mazda cx5
Driving on a combination of roads for 500 spirited miles
VERY pleasant tire, very quiet and supple. feels round and smooth. good grip and respond to inputs. bought it after 4 years with the alenza 001 which is more responsive and sporty but harsher and louder.

Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3 rated 97% while driving a Ford Escape
Driving on a combination of roads for 65 spirited miles
Purchased a set of four of these tires to replace OEM tires (which were poor-performing even in light snow and had 2/3 their tread left) on my AWD mid-size SUV. Couldn’t be more pleased with these tires. Their performance, comfort and quality have proven to be second-to-none. I drive A LOT (60k+ miles per year mix city/highway/cross-country driving) and in a variety of weather types and these tires have never disappointed me…whether it driving through the heavy thunderstorms of the Midwest or the snowy mountain roads of the Rockies and PWN, these tires have outperformed themselves and have exceeded my expectations by far. Gravel roads, sandy beaches and light muddy dirt roads were nothing for these tires to get through comfortably. I rotate them every 3,000-5,000 miles and they’ve worn evenly across the board. I’ve got about 65,000 miles on this set and they’ve grown a tad bit louder as the tires are now nearing their wear indicators, but that’s to be expected and is barely noticeable. Even as I’m nearing the wear indicators, the tires do great in heavy rain and snow (just took them through 11 inches of snow up Mt Hood in Oregon last weekend with zero concerns). I love them so much I just ordered my second set. Give them a go…I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised with their performance.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUV rated 91% while driving a Mazda cx5
Driving on a combination of roads for 20000 spirited miles
Michelin is undoubtedly a fairly reliable option, the Pilot Sport 4 SUV is the best option for those who use their car to go out on the track, it requires a lot and does not cover so many kilometers, for us mortals who use the SUV as a vehicle For transportation and even for business work, the mileage performance is quite low, 40,000 km. Exaggerating this the price is high, another quality is that it has an excellent grip due to its low treadwear, but this causes an increase in fuel consumption between 10 to 15% more, it is not so annoying but in case anyone will be interested.

Pirelli Scorpion Zero rated 66% while driving a Land Rover Discovery 4
Driving on mostly country roads for 18000 average miles
Fitted to Landrover Discovery 4. Fine in the dry, aquaplanes easily in wet, and terrifying in even light snow. Noise is very low except for where the road has the slots across it to aid braking, where it resonates, sometimes badly. The snow and wet performance is so poor, I am replacing these tyres midlife.

Bridgestone Alenza 001 rated 60% while driving a Nissan Rogue S
Driving on mostly motorways for 12000 easy going miles
Tires are on an awd suv with 12000 miles and are already worn noticeably. They are one of the worst tires I’ve ever used. Too expensive to have to be replaced every 20-25000 miles. Never again!
