Lexus IS350 Tyre Review Highlights

Writing about the Michelin Pilot Sport 5 given 90% (225-40-18-)
Driving on a combination of roads for 1000 average miles
If you are looking to buy this car make sure you get a good deal to be able to get off the stock bridgestones and on to something like the michelin PS5. Amazing combination with the lexus of sporty and comfortable. Sticks to road in dry and wet new zealand conditions and the lowest raod noise i have experienced on our suboar road surfaces…

The tire is loud and wears terribly. I drive on the hiway to and from work. All the road is good, with one curve. They handle decently. Dry anyways. Wet, not so much. 15,000 miles and they’re worn out. It’s not a sporty drive. It’s straight, in the country with one curve. We’re not formula one driving. Way, WAY too expensive to buy again. 15,000 miles? No way.

Excellent tyres all around. I was using Bridgestone Potenza RE003’s before this and over all, these are much better, quieter and feels safer. Tread wear has been great compared to the Bridgestone’s I had.

These rear tyres make my normally stable Lexus is350 twitchy. This is really noticeable on adverse cambers, even slight e.g. on a motorway. Alignment is correct and pressure doesn't make much difference. Particularly bad with passengers in rear.

Stock tires for a Lexus IS350 F-Sport 2017. These wear really good, you cant rotate tires on this car and 50.000KM in they are still going strong. Dynamics wise, these are decent performers, but nowhere near any reputable UHP Summer tire, comfort is mediocre, mainly because they are super noisy, producing a deep growl at motorway speeds. Rim protector is really meaty, but chunks off very easily and looks terrible aftherwards, guess it's fine as it is pretty much its job. If your car came with these look elsewere for a replacement. Either get a real UHP tire or a more modern and comfortable Touring one.

Driving on a combination of roads for 65000 average miles
At half life, least one of the tires likely went off round and is noisy and bumpy at all speeds even with recent tire balancing. I took it to the dealer and the head mechanic drove it and said that tire is bad and they need to be replaced. Other than this issue, I would say that the tire griped well on dry and wet roads.

Do not recommend these tires if you are looking for high mileage usage. My Radar Dimax R8 tires only lasted 14K and started coming a part on the inside, couldn't believe it until they were taken off the vehicle for rebalance, because of bad vibration and discovered tire was coming apart.

I've had these on a Lexus IS350 F Sport for about 3 months, had the factory Dunlop SP Sport Max on there before. My previous car was a Mazda 3 SP25 which came with the same Dunlops from the factory, changed those to Michelin Pilot Sport 4 after 90,000kms. Put 30,000 kms on the Michelins on the Mazda, and about 15,000 on the Goodyears so far. I also fitted slightly wider 235/40 18 fronts (original 225/40 18) and 265/35 18 rears (original 255/35 18). I did the same for the Mazda, 225/35 18s instead of 215/40 18s factory. I can say that the Goodyears have firmed up the steering much more, in good way, where there is resistance and feel on turn-in that was not there with the Dunlops. much more grip in all conditions, esp. in the wet. No tyre squeal at the limit either (unlike the Dunlops). The ride is much smoother than the Dunlops as well. The Michelin PS4 was also a much grippier tyre than the Dunlops on the Mazda (absolutely incredible grip in the wet, can pretty much drive as if the road is dry), but much less feel and they felt much softer and more of a touring tyre than a sporty tyre, quieter than the both the Dunlops and Goodyears. The Goodyears are a better balance between the hard sidewalled and low grip Dunlops and the massively grippy but overly soft Michelins. I would sum up by saying the Michelins are the better tyre overall UNLESS you value sporty dynamics and feel and feedback highly, in which case the Goodyears are a better compromise, albeit with slightly less overall grip. Either way, much much better than the Dunlops. Hope that helps! BTW, thanks to tyrereviews.com for all the reviews and detail that helped me make my choice, very very useful!
