Vauxhall Vectra Estate Tyre Review Highlights

Writing about the Nankang Noble Sport NS20 given 86% (215-55-17-)
Driving on mostly country roads for 8000 miles
I got rid of a van which was not really being used to it's potential in my business and went back to using an estate car as I did years previous.
A sub £1000 Vectra SRi fitted the bill , great car in great condition on a 57 plate on a small budget....never really thought about fun whilst driving from job to job, but after a few back road blasts it became very apparent that the vectra estate( quite a lardy car despite the SRi branding) was actually pretty dam grippy and balanced to a degree that left me quite shocked. No doubting that the chassis must take some praise as it's stiff and well damped, but
The tires fitted we're non other than these Nankang NS20,s and the lateral g you can generate is quite astounding for what is a cheap sports tire.
My plaything car is a modfified RX8 running on Kuhmo KU36,s, worked suspension too and if I was driving against myself in both vehicles I would not be feeling like the poor cousin on the Nankangs....they install quite a bit of confidence, seem stiff on the sidewalls and grip tenaciously. They run quiet too
I would buy again for sure..and will soon.
I recommend highley, budget driven or not.

Driving on a combination of roads for 6000 average miles
Living in a place where no matter where you want to go, you have to go up a hill, winter can be a pain. Last night in my UltraGrip8s I sailed past struggling cars, including 4x4s, in my 2009 1.8 Vectra Estate, with ease. Comfortable, and the feel very safe. And they are longer wearing than I expected.

Writing about the Michelin Primacy 3 given 60% (225-45-17-)
Driving on a combination of roads for 14000 easy going miles
Wearing down VERY fast, with gentle driving, compared to all previous tyres. Plus comes with less tread than normal to start with. Fronts need replacing very soon, after only 14K miles - versus previous gave over 40K miles. Definitely will not recommend Primacy 3 nor buy again.

Driving on a combination of roads for 5000 average miles
Average budget tyres. I had recommendations for these tyres. They were decent to drive for the first 5000km's and after that the noiselevel started to go up and inner surfaces start to wear unevenly. First I thought the wheel alignments was to blame, but they were perfectly ok.

Driving on a combination of roads for 20000 easy going miles
Have experienced very rapid wear - 3 times as fast as the HPs we've had before, with same drivers and driving mix. Will not buy again.

Driving on mostly town for 15000 easy going miles
I purchased a full set of 4 tyres in 2011 from a Saab part supplier from Ebay. I stored the tyres in dry conditions for a year before having them fitted to my Vectra estate 2.0dti. I didn't realise that each tyre has its own date on the sidewall, they were actually made in week 41 2008 (So three years old when I received them!).
Driving was OK but quite stiff at first. The tyres were barely holding the road and they would break away quite quickly on corners. I did about 15,000 over the 2 years I ran on these tyres. The ride was awful to the point where I had to weave to avoid any bumps in the road or face being shaken violently.
Around 3 months ago I noticed a large crack appear across the full width of the tread all the way to the bottom of the tread on my offside front tyre, I swapped this tyre for the rear tyre but was shocked to see this one was also cracked all the way across it. In short all 4 tyres have the same cracking which I thought very dangerous for me and my family (I will just state there was some age cracking starting between the tread and on the sidewalls but this was a deep crack all the way across and to the bottom of the tread as though the tyres were going to come apart. Even though these tyres had about 5mm tread left on them I have just changed to some Pirellis and they are so nice after these things, I would not purchase this make of tyre again.
Thanks for reading and check those dates, shops passing on old stock is not on, you are supposed to get a new tyre when the advert says new!
