Questions and Answers for the Falken ZIEX ZE310 EcoRun

2018-12-31 - Iím looking to replace a set of bridgestones which came with my Skoda Fabia Monte Carlo from new. It seems to be an awkward tyre size at 215/40/17. I was hoping for all seasons, but thereís only a choice of 2. So I decided on summer tyres. Iíve sort of narrowed it down to the Falken ZIEX ZE310 and the Hankook Ventus Prime 3. Which would you recommend ?

Both are excellent tyres, getting great reviews. The Hankook might have the edge in wear, but overall they're very similar tyres.

2019-08-05 - Is the Falken ZIEX ZE310 EcoRun suitable for a SUV 4x4 which is only used on road? My car is a 2014 ford Kuga 2.0 titanium powershift. 235 x 55 R17 tyres

As long as you meet the load index required by your SUV, there's no reason not to use the ZE310.

2019-09-18 - I have a Golf 7 1.4TSi 122BHP with 205/55 X16 German OEM Dunlop Blue Response tyres. These are internally noisy and have very soft sidewalls leading to sloppy handling. I am proposing to chage them to other 205/55 X16V tyres. Falken ZE310, Hankook Prime 3 K125 and Bridgestone T005 have been suggested as possible replacements. The Falkens have a very low external noise performance but I not convinced that this is a reliable guide to the internal noise. I had a very bad expeiuence with German OEM Dunlop tyres on a new BMW 316i in the past and I wonder if the Blue Response tyres are of the same ilk? i.e. poor OEM tyres. Internal noise & wet grip are the most important parameters for the replacements and I am willing to trade off ride comfort with slightly stiffer sidewalls. Any comments you have would be much appreciated. Many thanks for the most helpful web site.

Unfortunately all modern tyres have soft sidewalls as it reduces rolling resistance. You are correct in thinking there isn't necessarily a correlation between external and internal noise, but there is often a link. I have no personal experience with the ZE310 but I have seen tests note it's a good handling tyre for its class, so maybe worth a try! One thing worth remembering is that stiffer sidewalls will transmit more vibration through to the chassis increasing internal noise.

Given 94% while driving a MINI Cooper S (205/45 R17 W) on a combination of roads for 1,000 spirited miles
Purchased my Mini Cooper S with Pirelli P-Zero Run Flats, absolutely awful - no confidence at all, any slight bump would dramatically unsettle the car to the point where I could feel the car slide sometimes. Swapped to the Falken ZE310ís for a cost of £300 for all 4. WOW WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! My Mini has been transformed, Chuck it into bends now and it just grips, no sliding or any noise of the tyres struggling. Occasionally wheel spin in 1st gear but thatís understandable from a FWD car running north of 200bhp. Covered around 1000 miles so far and itís so much better on the road all round, whether youíre cruising or flying down back lanes, the tyres have got your back and I would 100% recommend them to anyone.

Given 73% while driving a SEAT Cordoba Vario TDI Estate (195/40 R17 V) on a combination of roads for 9,000 spirited miles
I have had the Falken ZIEX ZE310's fitted for a few months now, wet grip is good and grip in the dry is brilliant. They are nowhere near as noisy as the Avon tyres I had fitted previously, nor the Nankang budgets before that.

I picked the Falkens because they were offered in the aspect ratio I required, a very odd 195/40/R17 profile which not many manufaturers produce. So far I've covered nearly 10,000 miles and I have around 3-4mm left across the tyre (albeit I will need to replace sooner due to my tracking being out, and the passenger side wearing unevenly)

I can highly reccomend the Falkens as a fantastic mid-range tyre with good wet and dry grip, noise levels and overall comfort.

Given 100% while driving a Chevrolet Cruze LT3 1.6L (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 6,000 spirited miles
it's just really good and affordable tyre.

Given 67% while driving a Volvo v70 D5 (205/55 R16 V) on mostly country roads for 12 average miles
I've had these fitted to my Volvo d5185 estate car for around 10 of the past 14 months (I fit winter tyres over the colder months) and they are now down to 2mm tread depth, having covered just 12,000 miles.
I always keep the pressures at 36psi and the tyres have worn nice and evenly. These were bought based on their high mileage claim, to say I'm disappointed is stating the obvious ! They gripped very well in both the wet and dry when new, but this performance has deteriorated slightly but noticeably over time. I consider these a mid priced range tyre, though based on the low mileage they have covered I would have been just as happy with the equally well performing Chinese 3A P606 tyres I had fitted previously, though there is a £50 price difference for a set of 4 tyres. I will try a premium brand such as Dunlop or Goodyear next to see if they provide better mileage.

Given 53% while driving a Ford Fiesta (195/50 R15 V) on a combination of roads for 4,000 spirited miles
While a pair of them were fitted in the front, the steering response was very retarded during urgent manouvres. Then they were moved to the back (along with Bridgestones T005 in front) and while side holding is good, wet performance is terrible-they lost the grip on several occassions with no sign, while T005 were still gripping or signalling grip limit of this FWD car.
