Fitted to car mid December 2011. Having had a mild Dec and Jan, found the tyres very capable in dry conditions. Stable and comparable performance to a summer tyre. A very quiet and comfortable tyre keeping road noise to a minimum. In the wet, they are very capable, makes the car stable under braking and disperses water efficiently.

Just had heavy snow and I felt a little disappointed! The car moved around side to side quite a bit while travelling over semi compacted snow. Braking was good, car stops effectively with the ABS going off but not a great deal.
The one disappointment I do have is with the ability of the tyres to grip when pulling away in snow. Had almost 30cm of snow and I did get stuck once. Required people to push the vehicle to get it moving. Generally, I find the tyres grapple for grip in this depth of snow. Slush is not an issue.

My car is a MPV with a diesel engine. The description of the tyres say that they are for small to medium cars. My car is neither of those...

I have had Vresdestein Quatrac 3s and Kleber Quadraxers BUT not on this car. I would say the Quatrac 3s out perform the Optimo 4S in snow handling. Cannot sat for the Quadraxers as never used them in snow. Comfort wise, the Optimo 4S and Quadraxers are evenly matched but Quatracs are noisier.

Optimos 4S are very competitively priced!

I bought these in July 2011 in preparation for the winter. Bit keen I thought but after reading various reports I thought I would go for the Hankook Optimo 4S. Pricing was very much in line with the summer tyres I bought - Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas - so I thought why not. Currently I have done just over 11k miles upto now (Nov 2011) and I am down to 4/5mm so the wear rate is okay to last me through the winter (I hope). So in fairness to the wear rate it has been very good especially as you read that winter/all season tyres will wear a lot faster in hotter (above 7c) weather, and for the past 4/5 months it has been pretty hot compared to last year. So far driving on them really has been no different to the Sessantas, braking on both wet and dry are similar, I have noticed that it can be a bit slippy on the Hankooks in greasy weather, I take this as the tyre hasn't warmed up enough, however when you really turn in you can feel the bite and the grip. In the wet weather you just trundle through the puddles and the ruts with minimal lose of traction, I steer into the puddles to try this theory and yes they are very good to disperse the water. I am now just waiting for the cold weather really to kick in to see how these fare over the winter. As I have only a couple of mm left till I have to change them (3mm is when you should change, don't go on the 1.6mm legal rubbish, that 1.4mm ain't worth the hassle) I am hoping that this should still be enough to work well in the winter. Will I buy them again - to be honest yes and no - yes to the fact the pricing and wear is spot on - but no to the fact I want to try something else such as the Vredstein Quatrac (another all season tyre)

I had this tyres on my vw passat for 21000 miles and still legal ( front),rear still looks new. Great tyres for UK conditions. Good in the snow and icy road ( car just go from the traffic lights while others cant move ), good in the rain, on dry road could be a bit better but I like to take quick corners so to compare with summer tyre its not the same but still ok. You can get it from the internet shop for around 70£ in that size. To summarize good tyre next to goodyear 4 season tyre in the test but much cheaper, save you money , you wont need two sets. One tyre for whole year.

I live in Quebec, Canada and 'official' winter tires are enforced by law, which pretty much means that all-season tires are out of the question for year-round use. However, these tires are recognized as winter tires here and made them a very interesting choice. Although I've not had them long, I am very impressed with overall performance and handling in all weather conditions, including an early spring unexpected 20cm snowstorm. I am looking to see if they are available for my other vehicle.

I have generally used winter tyres on my wifes car and decided to try moving my own car on to these all season tyres to see how they worked. They are great all round tyres. The snow performance is not as good as Nokian WR G2's but better than low mid range marshalls. They inspire total confidence with sensible driving.

In wet and dry weather they appear to be a match for my Goodyear summer tyres. Tyre wear seems good they have been on 4 months and the wear rating on the tyre is 600 (temperature & traction also have very high ratings) and apparantly only about 2% of tyres have as good a rating and I have seen other Hankooks that quote 340 so I am assuming they will be good.

In balance these are a fantastic year round option for the UK weather conditions and all of my cars will have these going forward but as they are an import only tyre you really have to watch the prices and buy when they are cheap.

I've driven on these tires for almost a year now including one winter on my 2003 Mazda Protege 5. In the past I've always driven an exclusive snow tire in the winter and never considered an all season for snowy Western Canada. The salesman showed me all the data and test results on the Optimo 4s and I decided to give them a try to avoid the annual change over costs. In my opinion these are a beautiful dry and wet weather tire. Low road noise. Very nice handling and braking and so far seem to wear pretty good. However, I wish the above rating included "Snow and Ice Grip" in its evaluation. This is where I feel the tire comes up short. In my opinion..not even close to the traction of a Snow and Ice tire. In the snowy, slippery conditions of Canada they are simply, in my opinion an "All Season" tire. Our winter season is approaching in a month or so and I'm seriously considering taking these back to the dealer and asking what he will do for me. I do not want to run these for another winter, especially as my wife drives this as her primary vehicle year round. I've driven a lot in dicey, Canadian winters and these tires certainly do not live up to the advertised efficiency in wintery conditions.
