Nexen N8000 Reviews - Page 6

Given 73% while driving a Mitsubishi Proton Satria GTI 2.0 Turbo (205/45 R17 W) on mostly country roads for 5,000 spirited miles
The pro's of this tyre are:
1. Very low noise
2. Comfortable
3. Good straightline grip

The con's
1. Soft sidewall
2. Wear fast

The verdict:

If your car is not a heavy car, this would suit you well. Mine is very heavy on the front since the engine is sourced out from Evolution II. The soft sidewall rolls during hard cornering letting off the grip.. Braking during hard cornering is very dangerous.. However, for straightline speed and braking, the grip is on par with some other hi-performance tyres..

I made the mistake of putting Nexen n8000s on the back of my e46 325i sport, with RE040s on the front. I had always used RE040s all round. In an attempt to save money, I tried n8000s. They have an incredibly soft side wall that made the car borderline dangerous, losing traction suddenly through innocuous corners. These corners I had previously taken with no issues at all whilst driving in a measured fashion. They are reasonably quiet, and ok in the wet. Can't speak for wear as I took them off after 1000 miles, put on RE040s, and the car is back to normal. May be better if all four tyres are nexens but I strongly advise not letting n8000s near the e46 3 series.

If you are a spirited driver then stay away from these.
These tyres are only good for comfortable ride and low noise.
Thats it, nothing more.
They do not match the top range tyres in terms of performance

The sidewalls are so soft that you think that the tyre is bending like hell when you drive spirited and corner fast.

Installed on my BMW 320d E92 Coupe 2007 model. Replaced my Run-Flat Bridgestone tyres. This is what I wanted. Better ride comfort, low noise, and good handling. You can feel that the tyre is softer than the run flats.

For the price this is a very good tyre

Nice smooth tyre with good handling, but only lasted about 7000 miles to the wear marker, not goood.

Given 40% while driving a Ford Focus ST170 (225/45 R17 W) on a combination of roads for 12 spirited miles
Tyre proved quite good when new but after a few miles the grip in the wet disapeared completely but lasted quite a while for a budjet tyre

I have to say I am seriously impressed by these "budget" tyres, they perform way above their weight with incredible dry and wet grip. On frozen surfaces they were as good as any tyre I have tried apart from a full winter.

I have done about 1000 miles on them so far and they are without doubt on my "buy again" list.

Noise levels are very low performance through standing water is 100% reassuring with no discernible aquaplaning even at significant speed. I am really happy with them for the price and if they had been perhaps 20% more expensive they would still be the best in class.

These tyres are a big improvement over the Pirelli PZero Neros I had before.
Gone is the screeching on dry roundabouts and they don't tramline.
>100mph cruising is astoundingly secure and without minor deviations.

The wet and dry grip appear excellent, but I have not had any emergencies and while spirited I do not swerve or brake hard enough to test the tyres.

The comfort is better than any tyre I have had (PZeroNero & Michelin PrimacyHP)
The noise is lower than the previous tyres too.

I fear they may wear faster due to very wide groove to rubber ratio and low UTQR rating of 280.

I'm very hard on tyres - roundabouts abound in Queensland (Australia) and - yes - I do regard them as a challenge. The car (I bought it new in 2004) came delivered with Continentals, which I liked a lot. I've used Bridgestone, Rainsports, Hankook, Toyo and I just bought these Nexen N8000 tyres. They have gigantic channels in them, making the tyres look like only 50% of the width is actual rubber. The first time I drove the car, I thought I was going to be car sick. There was something floaty and unpleasant about the way the car rode on almost any surface. The steering was WAY lighter than with the Toyos. Dry grip is reasonable (nowhere nearly as good as the Continentals or Aquasports type 1) - Wet grip seems pretty good but - again - not quite up to the Aquasport's levels. Feel and progression too slide is pretty good and these tyres simply do not squeal. This is great for not drawing attention to oneself. Would I buy them again? No, definitely not. It's just the way they ride I don't like but their dynamics are good. What tyres would I get, if I could? - The Rainsports. These are the best I've used on the car by a substantial margin but they are no longer imported into Australia. Am I sorry I bought the Nexens? - No. They are a good tyre but I'll be doing everything I can to search out something better next time. The Hankooks and Toyos (not sure of the model but they were supposed to be those companies' sports version) were dreadful. The Hankooks were verging on dangerous in the wet and just so-so in the dry. I suspect these Nexens would suit a rear wheel drive car better than my front drive SAAB. Levels of understeer were rather pronounced and I feel this rapid but predictable progression from grip to slide would suit a rear drive car, as far as no vicious transition to oversteer is concerned. As far as a very well priced semi sports tyre is concerned, the N8000s are a reasonable buy and get you into the Continental tyre grip levels for 1/3rd of the cost. You've just got to get your head around the strange floaty riding characteristics. I found I could improve this by dropping the tyre pressures by about 3lbs per corner but it still hasn't cured the strange feeling. The tyres are only 250 miles old and maybe there are still small amounts of tyre mould releasing substances in the rubber (but I doubt it..). Hope this quick little review helps. If anyone wants more details, feel free to ask.

This tyre performs well in wet and dry better than OEM Potenza. Given the torque this car produces then the tyre is getting pushed. You get plenty of warning when things are starting to loose it. I think I will get 8k out of these which is much better than previous Hankook v12 which only did 5K. Its a good all round performance tyre and I would buy again
