Dunlop SP WinterSport 4D Reviews - Page 3

Given 84% while driving a BMW E92 330i (225/45 R17) on mostly town for 300 average miles
Excellent winter tyre. By far the most quiet winter tyre I have had and probably more quit than my summer tyres (Michelin HP). Previous winter tyres were Dunlop 3D and Conti 810's for comparison. Strong dry and wet performance. Good winter tracking although breaking on snow average. Good response from the tyres. The tyre feels "hard", however, reducing comfort when driving compared to the Dunlop 3D's WinterSports I had before and compared to my summer tyres (Michelin HP). Will continue to buy Dunlop winter tyres. I drive a BMW 330 xi Coupé so four wheel drive.

Given 90% while driving a Ford Mondeo (235/45 R18 V) on a combination of roads for 100 average miles
Just had these tyres fitted this morning on Ford Mondeo. Only driven in cold dry conditions so haven't rated everything yet. However the handling doesn't appear to be unduly affected by the extra rubbery-ness and tread depth of these tyres over their summer counterparts. Grip is very good and the braking remains sharp. They do feel like they need a little scrubbing in though.

However, the biggest difference is the noise! These tyres have a 69db rating which is among the lowest you can get. My car (a mere Mondeo!) is Rolls Royce like in terms of sound. Staggeringly quiet.

Chose the Dunlops over the often well rated Vredestein Wintrac due to the higher wet grip rating of the Dunlops (Dunlops get C instead of the E of the Vreds). As most Uk winters are wet and slushy as oppose to snowy, wet grip was more important to me than the possibly superior snow grip of the Vreds. Will update when it's had some wet and snowy stuff.

Given 91% while driving a BMW 320D (205/55 R16 V) on a combination of roads for 10,000 average miles
I put these on my 3-Series after a previous winter where the car was pretty much undriveable due to extended snowy and icy weather. Whilst this winter was much milder (maybe buying winter tyres makes the weather warmer!)the tyres have proven to be fantastic. When there was snow, they provided stability, grip and control that made the car very usable, and really improved the safety of driving. Cruising along a snowy motorway and tackling ungritted side roads was no problem for the tyres. In addition, they are quiet and comfortable in dry and wet conditions, and provide plenty of grip on cold and warm roads. An aggressive driver might find them a little soft on turn-in, but they're good company for cruising. Wear has been impressive too - around 10000 miles done this winter, and little sign of significant change to the tyre from new. They've now been removed and are being stored until next winter. These are excellent tyres in all respects, that I would recommend to anyone - they are more than worth the money, and will transform your winter driving experience.

Given 86% while driving a Audi A4 2.0 TDi 170 S Line (205/55 R16) on a combination of roads for 5,000 average miles
Really good tyres. I have driven up snow covered hills with ease in my A4 and passed mid range saloons stuck at the bottom. They are on smaller, steel wheels than my summer alloys (which seems normal practice, if you have space to store the other set) and they give a secure, quiet, economical and very comfortable ride. First few miles were noisy, but this quickly passed. If you push it hard round tight bends the grip is good, but not as good as the wider summer types, but that is only to be expected.

Given 93% while driving a Ford ST 225 (225/40 R18 W) on a combination of roads for 2,000 average miles
I decided to buy these tyres after reading various reviews and I am not disappointed.

Grip in both wet and dry conditions is excellent and general feel is superb. Only managed to use them in light snow this winter and I can say I definately noticed higher levels of traction than I am used to. Early days but wear rate seems good too.

All in all a very good winter choice.

Brilliant, lots of driving on continent means these tyres are really needed. Having used conti's and Pirelli before these are the best used.

Shod my Skoda Superb with the Dunlop 4D 205/55/r16 and i would say i am impressed by the road feedback and rolling resistance, had continental winter sport before but would say they are exqually good. I am in the break in period would recommend others on. waiting for the snow to fall here in Poland will report when it does.

Given 100% while driving a Ford Galaxy (215/60 R16 H) on a combination of roads for 200 average miles
Just purchased a set of these tyres, and all I can say is that they're simply amazing.
The car was rendered useless when the snow fell last year, until I invested in a pair of snow socks. Car can now be driven up snow/ice covered hills etc. with ease.

Very good in the wet we've had recently. Not actually been too bad on the usually hot days either.

Not tried these on snow yet but can't wait!
