Toyo Proxes TR1 Reviews - Page 5

Given 59% while driving a Toyota Vios (195/55 R15) on mostly country roads for 10,000 spirited miles
Previously I was on Potenza RE003, that things were good on the dry surface at the expense of terrible on wet. Changed to PS3 and those were the best in every aspect except it started to make small cracks at 2-year mark. Now the TR1 is the worst. Very noisy and vibrates likes no other. Will change to PS3 back later..

Work well for the price- dry grip is very good, wet not so much. Progressive runout when grip goes and sidewalls are much better than the old t1r. As a few people mentioned, tyres are quite noisy and mildly vibrate like a wheel bearing is on the way out on some surfaces!

Given 74% while driving a Toyota Perodua Myvi Toyota Passo (195/55 R15 V) on a combination of roads for 40,000 average miles
TR1 falls under UHP tires that performs really well on dry road. A very versatile tires that can be used daily or track. Downside, tires are noisy, in my car specifically, produces a humming sound at 60-70km/h as if the bearings are worn. On wet roads, tires underperform and starts slipping a bit. You won't lose confidence, but you'll feel that you need to slow down. With harder sidewalls, it performs great on straight road and corners really well. When reaching its limit, weirdly tires will vibrate like hell. A super grippy tires, makes loud grippy noises when enter carparks. Performs well, last considerably long.

Although the grip in wet and dry was good the noise was not, they sound and vibrat like a wheel bearing is going, I've changed back to Dunlop max RT2 which are a fantastic tyre

Given 66% while driving a Mazda Mazda2 (195/55 R16 V) on a combination of roads for 1,000 spirited miles
Had these replaced the Dunlop Enasave EC300+ on my Mazda 2. Tremendous improvement over dry grip, handling and feedback. Wet grip is pretty decent, as I didn't encounter any major slip during a rainy and wet back road run. Seems to complements the characteristics of the car very well as it allows one to lift off over steer and scandi flick with utmost confidence. Has a very distinctive screeching sound which progresses as you push harder over the limits.

The downside is the road noise and comfort. Terrible humming, thought it was my bearings but took the car into 2 tires shop and the usuasl service center only for them to conclude it's the tires.

Given 46% while driving a Toyota GT86 (215/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 7,000 spirited miles
Dry grip is acceptable for the price point of the tyre, wet grip is acceptable as well but can easily break loose with a bit more throttle on my gt86. The comfort is good. But the wear rate is bad and it easily breaks

Given 83% while driving a Renault twingo (195/50 R15) on a combination of roads for 4,500 spirited miles
I got these as a trial against rainsport 3s. indo 50miles a day but sometimes track the car so rainsports were my go to tire. I used to love the early t1r but they seemed to get worse a few years later, maybe a change of production compound? or facility? Any way I love the TR1, budget priced but high midrange performance, grip is awesome in the dry and I have no problems in the wet or standing water, obviously I'm driving within the limits but they do inspire a bit of confidence in the wet, they also look similar to rainsports..... I ran these for a full day at blyton also, no issues on a dry track there, kept the pressure in check and suffered no delaminating or extreme wear. Kept up with everything fine and handled really well. I will buy more of these for sure. The only thing I'd actually swap them out for would be some super sticky road slicks tbh. Car is a light tuned twingo with about 150bhp and 150lbft.

I replaced my Hankook ventus prime 3 with these Toyo tires. Dry performance is much better, less understeering, more direct handling, maybe a bit better braking. However, the wet performance is worse, especially during aquaplaning, when the car felt more unstable, compared to the Hankook.

Great tyre at the price, replaced Yokohama Advan tyres all round, so far so good. Really good in wet and brilliant in the dry!

This tyre is difficult to judge on comfort as I ran lowering springs, but I wouldn't say they were in comfortable. When I first purchased some alloy wheels, a had 4 different tyres, tread depths you name it. They were poor. Footing a set of proxes t1r's literally transformed the car. Dry grip was unbelievable, car cornered like a house fly. I later fitted some to a Mégane and that was the same, gave me so much confidence to through a car into a bend and it would hold. Really stable at high speeds as well from the stiffer side walls.
