Federal SS595 SUPER STEEL Reviews

Given 31% (breakdown) while driving a Citroën C5 (225-55-16-)
Driving on mostly country roads for 4,000 average miles
Had these on my citroen c5 diesel when I bought it second hand. Quite simply the worst tyres I have ever had in twenty years of motoring. Above 40mph they make this incredibly loud whirring noise like a broken washing machine on full spin! Above 50 mph they were so loud I thought the wheel bearing had gone on the car. The mechanic told me that it was the tyres. In terms of grip in dry they were not that good and in the wet as good as deadly. Had them changed for some Barum Bravuris 2 quickly and noise went, car handled and stopped much more safely and steering felt a lot lighter for the change. These tyres are dreadful....no wonder no car manufacturer puts them on their cars as original equipment, imagine the law-suits!!

Given 39% (breakdown) while driving a BMW E46 M3 CS (275-30-19-)
Driving on mostly motorways for 800 average miles
I have purchased off brand tires before, these are the WORST ever. My stability and traction control kicks on when the car is not being pushed. The sideways are so soft I rather drive a full sized truck with none low profile tires on it. I have to fight to keep the car straight at highways speeds and in a turn I have to always be correcting. The car feel VERY unsafe. I just came off of Contential Dw's on my Modded e46 M3 with full coil overs and wider aftermarket rims. I will be replacing this right a way after about 800 miles. I hate these tires and should have spent proper money on a proper tire.

Given 40% (breakdown) while driving a Rover 75 (215-55-16-)
Driving on a combination of roads for 8,000 average miles
I bought this car with these tyres on the front, and I cannot wait to get rid of them. When going round corners it feels as if the car is going to slide over to the opposite side of the road or into the ditch.I'm going to fit 'Event' tyres which have a better review and will confirm when fitted (this week)

Given 73% (breakdown) while driving a Toyota Celica GT4 (215-40-17-V)
Driving on mostly country roads for 25,000 spirited miles
I've no idea what half of the other reviewers here are doing with these tyres, I bought these to put on a 300hp 4WD celica and while they do lose some grip in the wet obviously, they grip really quite well (better than other tyres I've had at twice the price!) and are progressive when they let go. My problem with them is I go through them approximately every 10-12K miles on the front, 20K on the rear.

Given 80% (breakdown) while driving a Audi A4 2.5tdi Quattro Avant Sport (225-45-17-)
Driving on a combination of roads for 40,000 average miles
I have been using SS595 on my quattro for three seasons about 40 000 miles. Great Wear rate. It is good on dry condition, but not so good in wet.
Because of great noise isolation in Audi I wouldn't say those tyres are that much noisy.
Would buy again.
In winter I use Bridgestone Blizak LM32 winter tyres. Perfect.
In conclusion - great price/quality ratio.

Given 51% (breakdown) while driving a Vauxhall Vectra SRI 1.9 (150) (215-50-17-W)
Driving on a combination of roads for 15,000 average miles
The best thing I can say about these tyres is they appear to last for ever, just to annoy me!! Had them on the rear of my Vectra for 15000miles and they've still got about 6mm on them. Really don't like these tyres at all, they are very noisy (drone) and send every hole in the road right through the car. They seam to grip OK in the dry but I have lost the back more than once in the wet. If I could I would give a minus on 'buy again' as I am replacing them next week with 6mm still on then and saving them for a spare.

Given 52% (breakdown) while driving a Nissan Primera (205-50-16-)
Driving on a combination of roads for 1,000 spirited miles
Terrible tyres, this is the second car I've had with them on and I hate them. I previously had a Corsa SRi and they were terrible in the wet but now on the Primera they are making a horrible droning noise at random speeds, they don't seem to wear down though which is leading me to believe they are made out of plastic and not rubber.

Avoid at all costs, go for Kumho/Toyo T1R if you want cheap tyres.

Can't wait to get these tyres off!!

Given 80% (breakdown) while driving a Hyundai i30 1.6 petrol Premium (225-45-17-)
Driving on a combination of roads for 3,000 average miles
I've had these tyres before on my 194Bhp Grande Punto turbo-diesel with 263 ft lbs of torque, no problem with the Federals on that so I bought them with confidence for my Hyundai i30, & I have not been disappointed (or scared) To be honest I have no idea why some-one with an expensive to insure, high performance car, would buy budget tyres?
For a normal car with a normal driver these tyres are fine. Not noisy, not slippery, not un-trustworthy... in fact they are just average.. which is good for a budget tyre surely? 225 / 45 / 17's £72 a corner.

Winner!

Given 29% (breakdown) while driving a Skoda Fabia 1.9TDi (205-45-16-W)
Driving on a combination of roads for 5,000 average miles
Absolutely horrid tyres. Poor grip in the wet and noisy beyond belief. As per other reviews on here they make this awful droning noise between certain speeds and the same when slowing down. These came on my Fabia VRS and were quickly replaced with Toyo T1-Rs after some very scary moments at low speeds in the wet.

Driving on a combination of roads for 20,000 spirited miles
So so dangererous on any bit of wet! Never again. These are not a safe tyre.
Contis will be purchased next time. Fuel efficiency down by 3-4 mpgs as well. Noise is terrible except on new asphalt!! Have gone sideways doing 20mph in the wet with these on!
