155/65 14 Tyre Review Highlights

Michelin Energy Saver 4 rated 83% while driving a Subaru 04 baja
Driving on mostly country roads for 500 spirited miles
I'm reviewing it base on it price and other interchangeable tires.
My tires were 145/80r12 to begin with, Yokohama Job, RY52 with 8000km. A decent truck eco tire.
Car is Subaru Sambar van, a rebadged Daihatsu Hijet cargo.

I'm reviewing with all traction control and stability control off.
Dry grip, is way better. With the RY52, rear slides when I wanted it to. With Energy saver4, it just won't slide even I give full gas out of a tight corner. This van doesn't have enough power to power slide Energy saver4 on high grip surface.
Wet grip, is also better but mostly in lateral grip. RY52 have very good vertical grip ( accelerate and decelerate ). I haven't try to slide it yet in wet surface.

Feed back, is surprisingly out of my expectation. Best tire pressure for RY52 is F/R: 45/45 psi. For Energy saver is F/R: 45/48 psi.
RY52 have a larger range of tire pressure that can be driven, Front pressure is good from 42-45. Rear is good from 40-50. With 50PSI in the rear, I do feel a bit on the edge in the wet.
Energy saver4 however, is very tricky to set tire pressure.
Front can not be lower than 45. There will be no feed back. Rear can not be higher than 48, it will produce lots of noise.
Rear is best setting at 45 (or lower) but with F/R both 45, the car wants to understeer. Therefore I've settled with F 45. R 48.
Another thing is RY52 have way better handling feed back mid corner. I feel every bit of the tire, with Energy saver4, I know the general direction but not which part of the tire is gripping exactly. I don't think Energy Saver4 is to blame here, since RY52 is super hard LT tire.

Handling, it's higher than the testing vehicle. I'm at jail speed with 53 horse power on all the route ( mountain and twisting ) with +30km/hr faster than RY52, still I'm only afraid of the van rolling over , and not even a squeak heard. I don't think this van needs better grip than Energy saver.

Comfort, is something that you instantly feel, I feel it, my wife feels it. It way quieter and softer than RY52. I would say this aspect is what most people feels.

Finally, fuel economy. The wheel + tire set up is 6kg heavier per corner (12 to 14, RY52 to Energy saver), which is 24kg heavier for four wheels.
It is a lot heavier. In the stop and go city, fuel economy drops 1-2%. On mountain road it's within margin of error ( Screen shows better). On 60-90km/hr highway, it is 3-5% better.
There is no other way around the weight. During stop and go, you need more energy. During climbing, you need more energy.
But the eco compound that Michelin uses does provide lower friction therefore the fuel economy haven't worsen.

Bad tyre, no fuel saving and only 15000 km normal driving and rubber is cracking. Still 3 mm on it or so but will replace it. Never buying again.

Great tires for small cars with low hp, especially if u use small size of this tire. Good dry and wet grip even though they need a little time to warm up. The best thing about these tires that i was really astonished is their braking power especially on dry, it's like dropping anchor when i hit the brakes. Fuel economy is great too. I'm not that sure though about handling on higher speeds but yet again this tire in not meant to be for spirited driving like i am into so if u drive normally for everyday use like it was build for then is more than enough. Definitely recommend them!

Fit a couple of used ones in the front and i must say these tires was a pleasant surprise. Never had driven Pirelli tyres before and i was a bit hesitant about them. Even-though they were used (but in decent condition) the dry grip was very good and the dry braking was absolutely astonishing, despite the small size i used the car was braking in very short distances! Fuel efficiency improved too as i expected. Solid rubber that will do the job just fine. I recommend them!

Kumho Solus HA31 rated 91% while driving a Peugeot 107

Running these on a peugeot 107. I've had kumhos on larger cars before. For my daily commuter, I thought for the price I'd give the all seasons a go to avoid a second set of winter wheels again. Over the last month the snow has been heavy, over taking slow struggling cars has a breeze. They do feel soft when warm, but the cold weather and wet grip makes up for the warm short fall. The aggressive pattern does cause a slightly higher than normal road noise at 70mph. When these wear out, I'll be buying another set. For the price on a small car, I would definitely recommend them to anyone.

Have these fitted at the front by the previous owner. I was pretty happy by the fact they were a mainstream brand compared to the cheap fitted at the back. Got the car at the peak of summer, so grip wasn't an issue as virtually any decent summer tire will do its job. Lateral grip was very good in the dry but barely screeched on the limit, so it was hard to tell when it was about to give away. Every blue moon, I would feel the ABS slightly kick in when coming slowly to a stop. At first I thought it was the ABS starting to act up or something else. Not until the rain came and the roads were wet.. I've met the devil. I struggled to hold the car down at the road abouts. Corners where I usually would blast off, was driving like a snail. I could feel the tires trying to break away at the easiest turns and slipping as I accelerated out of the side roads. A 68hp car spinning wheels? How's that possible? Bad tires that is. Luckily the car's tires are slim therefore it has naturally a very good longitudinal grip, so braking wasn't a massive issue. The tires barely have 5000 miles with plenty of thread but nothing special. Has signs of cosmetic cracks and the side blocks determination.

This to fit to our 2nd car to replace the OEM Falken tyres. My current first impression are:
- comparing to the falken, the tyres felt softer, but noisier
- the grip and handling in the wet and dry condition is just as good if not better than the Falken - subjectively, i like to think it's better. They are quite reassuring.
- given the current street price for a japanese made tyres, i think they are excellent value for money.

I have fitted my Wagon R with Rottala RH 02 a few weeks back. Earlier were dunlop enasave. However, i found rotalla an excellent choice, the ride is super smooth and tyre is soft. No change in the economy of the fuel . However they are quite silent. I will again buy the same tyres.

2 tires both front and rear of co-passenger side got burst in small pothole when my new car(driven only 450km) which was at speed of 20-25kmph .
