Renault Scenic Tyre Review Highlights

Writing about the Vredestein Quatrac 3 given 100% (205-55-16-)
Driving on a combination of roads for 19000 average miles
I've never ever used better tyres than Quatrack3! Excellent all year round, they are on my car since winter time 2008 and still OK! Fantastic! Can't say more...

Driving on a combination of roads for 1000 spirited miles
The Michelins on the Scenic were still showing good tread but wet weather driving was fearful. Having put Nexens on my Focus the tyre dealer recommnded these for the Renault. The car drives far more positively , quieter and the handling is far better in the dry and starting to bring back the confidence in the wet. I notice that these tyres are now being fitted as standard equipment and I can understand why. These are more expemsive than bargain basement makes but do give the european premium tyres a run for their money. Michelins £500 Nexen £250.

Driving on a combination of roads for 40000 average miles
Perfectly good tyre in wet and dry conditions. A bit suspect in the snow and these are certainly not winter tyres by any stretch of the imagination.

The stand out quality of this tyre is the wear. Changed the fronts after 36000+ and the backs will still be legal for another 5000-10000. All in all they are super value for money on the average family car.

Writing about the Continental Premium Contact 2 given 79% (195-60-15-H)
Driving on a combination of roads for 8000 spirited miles
After a very short wear in these tyres proved to be about the best I have tried so far in terms of grip.
In the dry they turn in and respond superbly
In the wet they grip far more that I expect - better then anything previously
used.
My only 2 small concerns are - 1) Wear - I suspect they will wear out quicker than some. 2) Grip in the snow - they are not as good as my past 2 brands (Pirelli P6 and Kumho Solus KH15 - but are still respectable.
I am torn between continuing next time with these as it doesn't snow a lot - or trying something else (possibly Uniroyal Rain Expert).

Writing about the Kumho Solus KH21 given 78% (225-45-17-)
Driving on a combination of roads for 2000 average miles
Put the KH21s on my old Scenic at the end of January 2010, since then have done only about 2000 miles in mostly normal conditions. Grip in wet and dry both good, no tendancy to break away at the speeds I do - not slow, not mad - and the road feedback is fine, can't say I have driven them anywhere near the limits of stability. Somewhat noisier then the previous set of tyres but that is not to say they are intrusive and anyway what with the rattles and squeaks in the car I don't notice. Wear seems good but with only 2k miles too early to say. For the money and my needs they are a good buy and I'd recommend them for 'normal' everyday use.

Writing about the Goodyear EfficientGrip given 76% (205-55-15-H)
Driving on mostly country roads for 0 average miles
After 5000 km are still very comfort, with good grip. When i first fit them i had vibration after 140 km and needed to re-wear it. Without noise.
Good choice for "easy" driving.

Very good tyre, well balanced, used about 3mm tread in 12000 miles

Writing about the Kumho Solus KH15 given 74% (195-60-15-H)
Driving on a combination of roads for 15 spirited miles
I have had 3 pairs of these tires and feel them to be a very safe buy. They give lots of feedback and I know wet or dry exactly how much more grip is available. Best of all is the feel though - they have a nice solid straight ahead feel on the road. I have also used the similar tread pattern Pireli P6 (not the 4 seasons reviewed here) which actually grip a little better - but feel a lot worse - they feel over inflated and light without that nice solid straight ahead feel - but really grip well despite this. So I feel more comfortable with the Kumho's, ButI would like a little better grip in the wet - they become better in the dry and worse in the wet with wear. I don't know for sure what I will buy next time around - on the front I won't get more than 15,000 miles out of these - I might try the Ecsta KU31's next

Driving on a combination of roads for 20000 average miles
Well, from a manafacturer lauded as much as Michelin, I'd really expect better!

These came fitted when we bought our Grand Scenic new, in 2005. It's a 2.0 165bhp model, which gets driven quite quickly, the grip is shocking on these tyres, and oddly this sort of glaze appears on the tread after a while which makes grip even worse.

I'd never buy these tyres, and I'm glad they're coming up to the replacement stage. Now to fit some decent Falken ZE512s.
