MINI Cooper S Tyre Review Highlights

Writing about the Avon ZZ3 given 100% (205-45-17-W)
Driving on a combination of roads for 30000 average miles
Avon RR3 runflats fitted to a R53 MINI Cooper S to replace the OEM fitment Pirelli runflats. Good progressive grip and low noise, with outstandingly good behaviour in the wet, especially standing water. Very much more comfortable ride quality than the standard fitment runflats. Highly recommended

Driving on mostly country roads for 2000 spirited miles
Took of Pirelli Eufori Run Flats for these, the diference is amazing, no tramlining or skitishness, good feed back and much better ride.

Driving on a combination of roads for 4000 average miles
Purchased Cooper S 2007 model which was fitted with Dunlop Run Flats 205/45/17. The ride was dreadful with too much road noise. The handling really concerned me as it would bounce over poor road surfaces and I really did not trust the car!
Purchased 16" mini wheels and fitted four Falken Z912's
195/55/16W.The difference immediately was a much quieter, better riding car. The tyres transformed the car
Handling feels much safer in wet and dry conditions.

Writing about the Continental Sport Contact 3 SSR Run flat given 80% (205-45-17-)
Driving on mostly country roads for 1000 spirited miles
Although it is early days these tyres are so much better than the previous worn Pirelli Eufori run flats. The Pirelli's tramlined so much that I got the tracking adjusted. This didn't help so I thought there was something wrong with the supsension. The Conti's get great reviews and it is like driving a new car again!!

Writing about the Federal SS595 SUPER STEEL given 74% (205-45-17-V)
Driving on a combination of roads for 33000 spirited miles
I found these tyres especially grippy when 'warmed' up a bit. In cold weather they tend to slip more readily. Wet weather grip is fairly reasonable. They provide a good level of feedback and progressively loose grip when pushed hard before finally breaking away. Even when fairly worn they still perform very well. The only downside of these tyres is the road noise which is much higher than you might expect

Driving on a combination of roads for 20000 spirited miles
Initially the Pirellis' were quite grippy and even in the wet they would hold the road. Once they start to wear they do lose their grip, even before the tyres should need replacing the grip at the front end was worryingly low. I replaced the full set 20k miles ago and the front need replacing but the rears look almost like new.

The main reason I would consider something else rather than buying these again would be the massive tramlining you get on motorways.

Like all runflats these tyres have very little give resulting in a bone shaking ride on 17" rims. Tramlining was appalling and they were not very good in the wetand extremely noisy on certain types of road surface. Fronts were worn out by 12,000 miles and that was with average driving style. HAve changed to goodyear excellance, they don't tramline, are quieter and much more comfortable.

Driving on a combination of roads for 15000 average miles
The confort is very bad, have to avoid potholes and bumps. cant relax when driving. Not comfortable at all, prefer pirelli eufori@, better overall. I had pirelli on my previous MINI, after 18000km still like new, didnt want to replace them but dealer gave me a package so switched to continental which is very loud and uncomfortable.
