215/50 17 Tyre Review Highlights

Giti GitiComfort rated 73% while driving a BYD Qin Pro
Driving on mostly town for 47845 spirited miles
Tire Model & Regional Reference

My tire model is Giti Comfort 228v1. As a Chinese consumer, I'm unsure if this tire is sold in Europe or whether its formulation is identical to regional variants. Therefore, this review is for your reference only.

Road Conditions & Usage Scenario

Road conditions in China are generally good. I drive primarily on asphalt pavements, rarely on concrete surfaces, and almost never on gravel roads.

Usage Duration & Vehicle Configuration

I have used these tires for nearly six years, covering 77,000 kilometers. They were installed on a front-wheel-drive sedan with 160 horsepower.

Wear Status & Replacement Decision

The tires shown in the image were mounted on the front axle. You can observe their aging and wear: the outer drainage grooves are nearly depleted. Although the tread depth had not reached the 1.6mm safety indicators (minimum legal tread depth), I replaced them proactively.Only the 77,000km photo is current; others were taken earlier.

Tire Rotation Habit & Current Handling

I did not perform tire rotation—a poor maintenance habit. This resulted in significantly better condition for the rear tires. I have now moved them to the front axle and plan to use them for a limited period. Despite being six years old, I will replace them before my next long-distance trip for safety reasons.

Subjective Performance Evaluation

1. Limits & Handling
Frankly, I rarely sensed the tire’s limits; they almost never slipped except during snow or steep uphill starts. I doubt other tires would perform markedly better under such conditions. For handling, they responded swiftly and predictably during rapid lane changes without unnecessary instability.

(Note: As a non-professional driver without experience in top-tier tires, my assessment may be limited—but I find them satisfactory for daily use.)

2. Core Flaw: Noise Issue
Their most significant flaw is noise. Despite Giti’s official claims of "quiet and comfortable," they are extremely loud. This became starkly evident after I replaced two tires with genuinely quiet ones: the noise contrast between the front axle (Giti 228v1) and rear axle (new tires) is now dramatic.

RoadX RXMOTION U11 rated 61% while driving a Vauxhall Crossland X
Driving on a combination of roads for 35000 easy going miles
These came fitted on my Crossland which I bought at 17,000 miles from Arnold Clark. They looked very impressive. I think they must have been on since new. I have now driven the car for two years and it has reached 35,000 miles. Still four or five mm on the front tyres.
Not impressed. They seem passable in the dry though the car seems rather rough over bumps and noisy on some road surfaces above sixty mph. That might be largely the large diameter lower profile wheels.
My biggest gripe is the wet grip - especially at slightly low temperatures. I get nervous accelerating modestly out of roundabouts and even in straight lines. The steering easily goes very light if you are not careful. Does not inspire confidence about wet stopping distances.
I've been saying that I really should change them since shortly after I got the car.
Just noticed that the sipes have worn away around two of the blocks of tread on the front tyres - even though there is still at least 4 or 5 mm depth of tread in the main channels and the tread surface is nowhere near the wear bars. That prompted me to start looking at tyre reviews as the absence of the sipes can only make the wet grip worse.

Yokohama BluEarth Es ES32 rated 0% while driving a Honda Civic
Driving on mostly town for 0 easy going miles
Recently got a set of 4 tyres Blueearth ES Es32. Changed from Nankang NS25. I was quite content with the Nankangs which I have been using Sep 2022 clocking 44000 km. First thing caught my attention was how quiter the YOKOHAMA compared to the Nankang. Also, the ride felt a touch smoother. Impressed so far, but for a fairer comparison need to use them for at least a year. With Nankangs I never experienced punctures though the Bridgeston that preceeded Nankangs had quite a few incidents.

Cooper Zeon CS8 rated 10% while driving a Ford Cmax
Driving on mostly town for 12000 easy going miles
Fitted 2.5 years ago on Ford CMax. Around 12,000 miles driven since & our trusted garage said they had perished, would fail the MOT & needed replacement.

Not good enough after just relatively low mileage.

Goodyear Eagle Sport 2 Uhp rated 60% while driving a Ford Focus MK4.5 1.0 Ecoboost Hybrid
Driving on mostly motorways for 5000 spirited miles
I’ve done 4000km’s with this tyre and always use it with factory advised 2.2-2.3 bar pressure. In dry conditions, grips well in the corners. However, I’m not happy with characteristics when hard braking in dry conditions. Tyres lock immediately and ABS involves in. Even braking on dry asphalt feels icy! Tyres feel like don’t want to grip the road to slow down. For handling 7 points but for braking 1. Tyre sound levels are good. Comfort ok. Haven’t driven into deep water yet. So no comments on aquaplanning. I would buy a Conti PC7 or Pirelli Cinturato P7/C3 instead… Buy more expensive but stay safe…

Minerva Radial F 205 rated 83% while driving a Honda Civic 1.5T
Driving on mostly town for 5000 spirited miles
Ignore my previous review which shows dissatisfaction, I switched to Yoko 553 and after driving immediately on them realised it was a mental barrier I was thinking these are not good tyres. For past few weeks I had a placebo effect that I should switch to a better brand and felt my car was activating its ABS too soon on Minerva. Midway to home I realized these brand new Yokos have the exact same braking and drive response as those Minerva I took off. So I ended up going back to the tyre shop and at some financial compensation loss to the shop got my Minerva back. Now I am more satisfied with them than even before. Go for them, saying this after back to back trying a tyre more than twice as expensive but similar performance.

Driving on mostly town for 500 average miles
They were good for the first few thousand kilometres and felt like awesome tyres for the price at par with higher tiers. Now after crossing 5,000 kilometres they seem to be a waste of money. The tyres screech at even the slightest of hard brake and then ABS kicks in. There is great loss of traction at hard acceleration and the VSA kicks in ruining all the pleasure of a full throttle. It was a bad call and I am gonna switch back to any of the known brands

Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance rated 76% while driving a Nissan LEAF Tekna
Driving on a combination of roads for 30000 average miles
Good tyres, wearing is quite acceptable. They lasted from 2020 on mountain roads and highways, city daily driving so around 45000 kilometers and still 5000 kms before being exhausted at the front.
I appreciated their comfort with the noise: good with my Nissan Leaf 2.
On dry surface, they miss a bit of traction to support the 350 NM from the electric motor.
On wet surface, they miss a LOT of traction, they rip very easily.
Appart from traction, they are ok, not a sport tyre but pretty much enough to keep you secure.

Replaced Dunlop BlueResponse with these, the sidewalls are way too soft. They grip well but you feel the car moving around on the tread. I can't wait until they are worn out so I can replace them.

Kleber Quadraxer 3 rated 53% while driving a Opel astra j 1.6 turbo
Driving on a combination of roads for 20000 spirited miles
I really don't understand why so many reviews say that the grip and handling on dry and wet is good with these tires. In the tire test there is only one that shows the reality (2023 Auto Zeitung All Season Tyre Test).
I was the biggest fan of KLEBER Quadraxer 2. I had 4 sets. 2 on a corsa D and 2 on my astra j with life span of 45 - 55.000km for each set. You could screech those tires as much as you like, they wouldn't let go! Fabulous! Until I bought Quadraxer 3 :(. First twisted road I got the chance (10 degrees Celsius outside when Quadraxer 2 excelled) I felt like on winter tires on a summer day, it was absolutely scary! I understand that they probably wanted better handling in snow but I think they went overboard. Sorry but sadly I'm leaving the Quadraxer fan club. It was a really good run!
