215/50 17 Tyre Review Highlights

Avon ZV7 rated 73% while driving a Citroën berlingo
Driving on a combination of roads for 9000 spirited miles
Just don't! I had Avon tyres before, they were ace and lasted long. This however, not even sure they did the 9000 as I have winter tyres too and didn't mark the mileage so it is an educated guess. They are good tyres in terms of performance, can't fault them. Love their grip on wet and dry and give a stable cornering experience. I bought my car when it was 1 year old and they came with Michelin Supremacy or whatever it was and they were horrible. I felt I was driving on ice, especially in wet conditions so I quickly replaced them. On my former car I had the Avons and in fact I still have them in the shed as I sold the car with the winter tyres, and that Avon is still solid at 6+ years old, no cracks, and did at least 25 000 miles. However the ones I bought in 2021 for the Berlingo they got cracks all over the place as described by other reviews. Also I didn't check the treads properly just briefly and it was around half way on the sides, never realised that they were almost on the legal limit in the middle until I've read it in the shop report that the tyres were at 6%. We went away for a long weekend and having 3 little children I didn't take any chances, told the local shop to replace them. Since I had only 2 days to sort it out I went for the same again. First I thought I must have had done something to the tyres myself like letting them on for this winter or the high speed travel on the autobahn had its toll or just simply had a bad batch as the other avons were fine. I hope I won't regret this decision, I came to look if it is really fine to have less than 3 year old tyres with all the cracking. I was shocked to see all these reviews with the same issues. I wish I had the time to check around before I had to buy again, I would have avoided it!
I didn't mind the mileage as much as I wasn't particularly soft with them and this is a big box car, probably has a bit more force on the corners than the ford focus I had before but wasn't happy about it either. It is not cheap, it cost me £110 per tyre fitted now. The guy in the shop said it is completely normal to have those cracks on a 3 years old tyre. I guess he said that because he knew I bought those from them too. Anyway, this review is for that faulty set of tyres. Since I normally use winter tyres too I kept the front and back rotating therefore I had all 4 tyres on 6% according to the tyre shop. As many other it was the middle tread which was gone with the sides looking like half way done only.
There is one more aspect that probably nobody noticed, Now that I had the new ones fitted the car is more "bouncy" like the tyres were overinflated. I am yet to check that (was nothing but raining badly since) but I doubt the shop put more air in them than shown on the sticker in the door frame and that's what I usually kept myself with regular checks and adjustments. If the pressure is in the same region it would mean that the tyres are "softening" with time and road feedback changes. However, I must point out that I didn't notice any change in the grip on the worn tyres. I wasn't pushing them to the limits though but in everyday spirited driving they didn't feel different.
I will come back in a year or two and give another feedback on the current set. Hopefully I will be lucky and these will last long and won't crack. Also I have a set of winter tyres they are Avon too, at some point I'll do a review on them as well. In terms of performance they are the same as this so quite happy with those too, but now I am worried about the longevity.

Kumho Solus 4S HA32 rated 53% while driving a Opel Astra J 1.4 turbo
Driving on a combination of roads for 40000 spirited miles
This is an update of an older review of mine.
I have had these tires fitted on my Opel Astra J for 3 years and used them for almost 50.000 km.
The tires are almost worn out and are to be replaced soon.
Overall, they are acceptable, but they do not impress in any particular area. Of course, I did not expect them to perform like a summer tire in hot weather or like a winter tire on snow. It was a compomise I accepted from the get-go.
Positive aspects: HA32 is quite good on wet in terms of grip, stability, handling and braking. They are quiet and comfortable on most types of roads. The wear is decent and the price is acceptable.
Negative aspects: dry braking is not so good, snow performance is mediocre, lateral grip on wet is tricky, the rubber starts to crack badly on the treadwear and smaller or bigger chunks are missing.
All in all, not a bad tire considering that it is not very expensive. If your driving style is relaxed and you do not push the car to the limit, Kumho Solus HA32 might safisfy your needs.
I will stick to all season tires to replace the Kumhos, but this time I will choose a premium brand as it offers better grip and performance.

Bridgestone Potenza Adrenalin RE004 rated 93% while driving a Honda Civic 1.5T
Driving on a combination of roads for 30000 spirited miles
Been using since March 2021 with mileage 45K and still counting. The tread wear 220 is absolutely bullshit for me. The mileage surprise me. The dry handling is absolutely fabulous. U can feel the road and when corner it give u a lot of confident. One cons for this tyre is the noice level. Really very noisy no matter how the road conditions is. As for the wet I don’t drive fast and hard corner during rainy days. Definitely a very good tyre which surprise me.
Ps: I do tyre rotation every 12k km.

Kumho Solus 4S HA32 rated 54% while driving a Opel Astra K 1.4T 150
Driving on a combination of roads for 30000 miles
I bought these tyres in October 2021, fitted them on an Astra J, and did around 45,000 km (roughly 30,000 miles).
Driven in all road conditions (dry, wet, slush, snow, ice). Overall they are not bad, but they seem to struggle in snow, with limited grip.
Cornering on wet roads at reasonable speed has been problematic since new, with multiple occasions when ESP was prompted rather agressively.
Dry braking is also not as good as expected, again the ABS kicking in most of the times.
One big problem with Kumho Solus HA 32 is that thay began to chip smaller or bigger chunks with no apparent cause.
Wear is average. I expect them to last 5,000 miles, but no more.
All things considered, Kumhos are not bad tyres, but they do not impress either. Definitely not buying them again.

Continental EcoContact 6 rated 53% while driving a Ford Focus
Driving on mostly town for 6000 average miles
I wish I had found this site sooner. These Continental EcoContact 6’s were the factory-fitted tyre on my car and with all of the recent torrential wet weather I’ve noticed that they are somewhat unstable on wet road surfaces and really knock your confidence driving on them.
You can find the limit of wet grip quite quickly such as sliding when joining a motorway sliproad from a roundabout or even getting unwanted wheelspin on mini-roundabouts.
It feels as if the front tyres are struggling to bite into the surface, I think the EU tyre lane A-rating for wet grip is a bit of a gimmick especially for what is probably a very hard, low rolling resistant compound.
The tread depth is at mid wear point of 4-5mm, but the lack of wet grip has been persistent from the start and I can only imagine it’ll get worse.
I would not recommend these tyres for a LWB estate/SW car, I would probably opt for an Avon ZV7 or Hankook ventus prime 3 as a replacement as both perform very well in the wet from previous experience.

Hankook Ventus Prime 4 rated 89% while driving a Honda Civic 1.5T
Driving on mostly motorways for 12500 spirited miles
Hi,

I had left a review a few months back and want to share my updated mid term review.

1) the tyres still hold/handle like they did when new
2) they are still smoother then any competitor I have used
3) though smoother then competition they are somewhat stiffer when compared to brand new state, I did replace them with a new set to check and I can confirm the new set is about %20 smoother but please dont be fooled from this comment they definately are smoother then any competition period.

4) the only area I would give them 6-7 stars is wear, they arent your typical 60-70k km tyres like bridgestone or pirelli with hard compound, they are a much smoother compound and obviously wear faster, I would say you would probably get 30000km's out of a pair without signs of wear and by 40000km they would definatley need replacement, not bad but not great either however again compaired to the price and what it has to offer this is actually a very good result.

1. High comfortable tire low nose
2. Good dry breaking
3. Handling ok
4. At least Made in Japan

Bought these budget tires after my Achilles tires expired. Better than I expected since I had pretty low expectations. Tires are comfortable but does not provide great feedback. Acceleration and braking both improved compared to the tires I previously had. It cannot compete with top-tier brands, but budget-wise, tires are pretty decent, as I've bought almost four tires for the price of one Bridgestone.
